Ty Montgomery Stanford Playmaker

St. Marks High School in Dallas, Texas is an all boys’ Episcopal school. Notable alumni include Luke and Owen Wilson, H. Ross Perot, Boz Scaggs, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Miller of the Steve Miller Band. Football players Sam and Emmanuel Acho, Kalen Thornton and Ty Montgomery all attended St Marks.

Sam Acho plays for the Arizona Cardinals and Emmanuel Acho for the Philadelphia Eagles. Thornton played briefly for the Dallas Cowboys.

Those are just some of the more famous alumni. Dallas St. Marks is one of the top academic high schools in the Dallas area and in the country.

The Lamar Hunt family donated the football field and Tom Hicks funded the gymnasium. Lamar Hunt owned the Kansas City Chiefs and Hicks owned the Texas Rangers.

Former St. Mark’s High School and currently Stanford’s Ty Montgomery is one of the top Wide Receivers and kick off return men in the entire country.

Montgomery has excellent size for a Wide Receiver at 6-2, 220. But, he is pretty big for a return man.

He did run the 100 meters in 10.81 in high school. Not sizzling, but still pretty fast and apparently plenty fast to be one of the top return men in college football. Montgomery was also a decent long jumper in high school going around 22 feet. Again, not a great measurement but good enough to translate into a top college football player.

Montgomery ranked 2nd in the entire country in 2013 in Kick Off return yardage with 30.3 yards per return. He also ranked 2nd in scoring with 2 Kick Off returns for TDs.

He was consensus All American as a return man.

Montgomery was far more than just a return man, however. He caught 61 passes in 2013 for 958 yards and averaged 15.7 yards per catch. He was Stanford’s top receiver and go to guy last season and will be again in 2014.

Look for Montgomery to be All American again as a return man and this season also as a Wide Receiver.

The Pac 12 is loaded offensively and particularly at QB and at WR. Nelson Agholor at USC, Austin Hill at Arizona, Bralon Addison at Oregon, Chris Harper at Cal, Jaelen Strong at Arizona State and Montgomery are going to be among America’s best WR’s next season. Montgomery may be the very best of the entire group and that’s a good reflection on him.

Montgomery had his best game, surprisingly, in a huge upset loss to Utah that took the Cardinal out of the national title picture.

Montgomery had 296 all purpose yards in the 27-21 loss. Ty had a 100 yard Kick Off return after the Utes first TD. Montgomery also had 8 receptions for 131 yards.

Against the Washington Huskies he had 290 all purpose yards. 204 of those yards were Kick Off returns. He had a 99 yard TD and another for 68 yards. Montgomery had 35 yards rushing and a 39 yard reception for a TD.

Montgomery had another outstanding game against Army when he had 255 all purpose yards. He only had 73 yards in returns, but had 30 yards rushing.

He had 6 receptions for 130 yards, and 46 of those yards were on one Touchdown catch.

Stanford uses an old school pound the ball type of offense with a run first mentality. They are not going to throw the ball as often as a lot of schools, therefore Ty Montgomery is not going to have the ridiculous numbers that some Wide Receivers often produce.

However, he is a very dangerous weapon at 2 different positions and is a game changer at both.

Ty Montgomery is an All American player that can burn you in a number of different ways.

Montgomery rushed for 159 yards and 2 TDs at 12.2 yards per carry to go along with his receiving yardage and returns.

With his play making abilities and his 6-2, 220 size plus his better than average speed and his strength and quickness, he will be one of the top players in America in 2014 and extremely popular with NFL scouts.
