QB: Lamar Jackson – Louisville: Sensational sophomore season for Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals. I posted about Jackson previously here: LJ
Jackson is superman throwing for 1,625 yards and 14 Touchdowns in 5 games. He’s also run for 688 yards and 14 Touchdowns. Louisville will be a threat as long as Jackson stays healthy.
QB: Deshaun Watson – Clemson: Preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, Watson had a slow start to the 2016 season. But the game against Louisville woke him and the Clemson Tigers up from the lethargy.Watson has thrown for 1,568 yards in 6 games with 18 Touchdowns. On the ground Watson has lagged behind his normal self and has only rushed for 239 yards and has not scored yet.
But, that will come and the biggest thing is that Clemson is 6-0.
QB: Mitch Trubisky – North Carolina: Most people are surprised by the success of Trubisky, but I had written something about him before the season got going. Mitch
Trubisky is 6-3, 220 and while he is not the same level of mobile as Jackson and Watson, he can still pick up a first down with his feet. In spite of being dominated by the Hokies of Virginia Tech, Trubisky still deserves mention as an All American. After 6 games, Trubisky has thrown for 1,769 yards and 13 Touchdowns. He also had 4 rushing Touchdowns.
QB: Jake Browning – Washington: Browning has emerged as the top Quarterback in the West. As a sophomore, Browning is already a two year starter. This season, Browning has looked really good as has the rest of his team. In 6 games he has thrown for 1,418 yards and an amazing 23 Touchdowns. He is also athletic enough to get that tough first down, but he hasn’t had to run much this season and only had 3 rushing Touchdowns.
RB: Donnel Pumphrey – San Diego State: Leading the nation in rushing at about the midpoint of the season. Pumphrey is a little guy, but he can scoot and this season he has used that speed to run for 891 yards after 5 games with 9 Touchdowns. He also has 18 receptions for another 131 yards.
RB: Dalvin Cook – Florida State: Another strong prospect for the Heisman, but he got off to a really slow start. The past 3 games he has shown more of what we have come to expect out of Cook. He just has a burst that few other Running Backs possess and he’s comfortable running in heavy
traffic as well as he is in the open field. Cook has 785 yards rushing and 20 receptions for 345 yards. Cook has muscled up in the last couple of years and is up to about 215 now.
RB: Jamaal Williams – BYU: Williams is in competition with Pumphrey to lead the nation in rushing.The 6-2, 220 Williams is just behind Pumphrey in rushing yardage with 866 yards, but in 6 games as opposed to 5.
WR: Shay Fields – Colorado: Big play Shay is what his teammates call him. Big play Shay has 25 receptions for the season at nearly 20 yards per reception. 5 of those receptions have been for Touchdowns. 5-11, 180 Fields has outstanding speed and hands.
WR Equanimeous St Brown – Notre Dame: In spite of a nightmare season in South Bend, St Brown is a play maker. St Brown is 6-6, 205 with great speed and ability. He has 28 receptions at over 20 yards per carry and 6 Touchdown receptions. The only thing to slow down St Brown was a hurricane in North Carolina last week.
WR: Chad Henson – California: Henson came out of nowhere to catch 59 passes for 770 yards and 8 Touchdowns. Hanson is 6-2, 205 and has decent speed to go along with great hands.
WR: John Ross – Washington: Might be the most explosive receiver and return man in the country. Ross has 30 receptions and 9 Touchdowns. He also has a Kickoff return for a Touchdown.
WR: Mike Williams – Clemson: The very fact that Mike Williams is back on the field is amazing in itself. Williams missed all of last season because of an injured neck. Williams is a big play guy with 27 receptions for 432 yards and 3 Touchdowns.
TE: Jake Butt – Michigan: Butt is probably the best all around Tight End in the nation and a favorite target for Michigan Quarterback Wilton Speight. Butt has 23 catches for 270 yards and 3
Touchdowns.
TE: Evan Engram – Ole Miss: More of an H-back big Wide Receiver type guy rather than a traditional Y type Tight End. Engram leads the Rebels with 30 receptions and 4 Touchdowns.
OT: Mitch Hyatt – Clemson: An instant starter as a true freshman in 2015, Hyatt is even better this season. Going up against top defensive linemen in practice has elevated Hyatt’s game. Hyatt was a freshman All American and will be an All American again as a sophomore.
OT: Jonas Williams – Alabama: A true freshman who is fantastic. Rated as the 3rd best Offensive Tackle in the nation in the 2016 recruiting class. Started immediately and actually looks better than junior Cam Robinson. Williams is already one of the top tackles in teh country.
OT: Cam Robinson – Alabama: Robinson was amazing as a true freshman and as a sophomore, but has not progressed this year as much as he should have. He should be one of the first players picked in the next NFL Draft. Hopefully, he didn’t hurt his draft stock by being a knucklehead.
OT: Adam Bisnowaty – Pittsburgh: Long term starter at Left Tackle for the Panthers. Bisnowaty is a 6-6, 305 physical specimen with great feet.
OG: Ben Braden – Michigan: Big, physical Braden may not should be on this list because he has missed playing time with injuries.
OG: Dorian Johnson – Pittsburgh: Johnson is a specimen and lined up beside Bisnowaty they are a tough pair. Johnson is 6-5, 315 with excellent feet and maybe the best Offensive Lineman on a team with good Linemen.
OG: Braden Smith – Auburn: I’ve been promoting Smith for two years and now everyone else is on the bandwagon. Smith dominates and that’s what you would want out of an Offensive Lineman. Smith has gained about 20 pounds of muscle since last season and is the best Offensive Guard in the
SEC.
OG: Freddie Tagaloa – Arizona: Big, physical player on a struggling team. Arizona doesn’t care about defense, but they know offense and Tagaloa is a beast and at 6-8, 315 a force to be reckoned with up front.
OC: Evan Pocic – LSU: Pocic is super quick for his size and in his third year as a starter at LSU. Pocic is 6-7, 305 and could likely play any position in the Offensive Line.
OC: Pat Elfien – Ohio State: Senior Elfien is a long term starter, but in his first season at Center. The early results from his position switch are good and Elfien is a leader in the Offensive Line.

DE: DeMarcus Walker – Florida State: Walker got the year started off right with 4 and 1/2 Quarterback sacks against Ole Miss in game one. He has has 2 Quarterback sacks sine to bring him to 6 and 1/2 on the season. Walker is 6-4, 280 with extreme quickness and he’s always been near the top of the team tackles list.
DE: Djuan Price – Pittsburgh: Undersized but relentless pass rusher.Price is 6-0, 255 and he is super quick off the edge. Price has 8 and 1/2 Quarterback sacks so far and 12 and 1/2 tackles for loss. He has an additional 9 Quarterback hurries and he has forced 3 fumbles. Price might be short, but he is fearless and fast.
DE: Harold Landry – Boston College: Boston College had the top Defense in the nation until
Clemson came to town. Landry is a 6-3, 250 and originally from North Carolina. He has 6.5 Quarterback sacks and 8.5 Tackles for loss.
DE: Myles Garrett – Texas A$M: Maybe the #1 draft pick in the next draft. He will go pretty early.Garrett, from Arlington, Texas hs 4 Quarterback sacks and 6 tackles for loss this season as teams feare his presence coming off of the edge. Garrett is extremely quick for 6-5, 270.
DE: Arden Key – LSU: Something of a physical freak, but still a bit thin at 6-6, 240.Key is super quick and very aggressive off the edge and that has resulted in 7 early Quarterback sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. He has 6 more Quarterback hurries and he has forced 3 fumbles.
DT: Jonathan Allen – Alabama: Plays Defensive End in the 3-4 front, but he’s more of a Tackle type. Allen is a top pass rusher with 4.5 Quarterback sacks this season. He is such a talented athlete that he picked up a fumble and returned it 75 yards for a Touchdown.
DT: Dexter Lawrence – Clemson: An amazing freshman, just incredible athlete and a physical freak of nature. Lawrence may be one of the most imposing specimens to ever come along. He is 6-6, 340 and supposedly can run the 40 in less than 5.0 seconds. He is super strong and he is 4th on the team in tackles which is amazing for a true freshman and a Defensive Tackle. He has a Quarterback sack and 3.5 tackles for loss. The Clemson coaches moved another Defensive Tackle, Christian Wilkins to Defensive End because of need and Lawrence is so good it allowed them to do so.
DT: Elijah Qualls – Washington: A brute at 6-1, 320 that helps the Huskies control the line of scrimmage. Qualls is a rising star and a talent. He has 2 Quarterback sacks and 4 Tackles for loss.
DT: Ryan Glasgow – Michigan: Very physical nose guard and run stuffer. The Wolverines need Glasgow brothers
Glasgow to stuff the middle and stop the run. He’s not a super pass rusher, but they have Defensive Ends to provide heat on the Quarterbacks.
LB: Reuben Foster – Alabama: Big hitter, the new thumper at Linebacker for the Crimson Tide replacing Reggie Ragland in the machine. Foster was second on the team in tackles when Ragland was on the team and now he has taken over the position.
LB: Cameron Smith – USC: Very big and physical inside Linebacker. Smith leads the Trojans in tackles with 49 for the otherwise disappointing USC team. Smith is 6-2, 245 with all of the physical tools. He started in game one of his true freshman year and is now a sophomore coming off a kknee injury.
LB: Jabrill Peppers – Michigan: I, and many others, believe Peppers is the best player at any position in college football this season. He is small for a Linebacker, but possesses great speed. He plays all over the field including Running Back, Quarterback, Returns on Punts and Kicks as well. His outstanding speed allows him to make plays all over the field. Peppers is 2nd on his team in tackles with 38 with 10 for loss and 2 and 1/2 sacks. He has another 5 Quarterback hurries and has forced a fumble. He is averaging over 17 yards per punt return and has 1 Touchdown so far and he tripped and fell on another one and he’s averaging over 31 yards per kick return. In the run game, he averages nearly 20 yards per carry. Give him the ball more, coach, he’s the best player in America.
LB: TJ Watt – Wisconsin: JJ Watt’s little brother, of course, but he is a player in his own right. He’s not JJ’s size, but he’s a big, strong Linebacker that just makes plays.The younger Watt is 6-5, 245 and he’s one of the best Outside Linebackers in the country. In 5 games, Watt has 29 tackles with 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 Quarterback sacks. Wisconsin switched Defensive Coordinators, but they still have that same tough defense.
CB: Jourdan Lewis – Michigan: Not a really big Corner, but Lewis is really talented. He can cover about anyone like glue. He did miss a few early games, but he is back with a vengeance. His stats are pretty modest with the missed games. But, the 5-11, 180 Lewis is about as good as anyone.
CB:Chidobe Awuzie – Colorado: The Buffaloes are 4-2 on the season and their two losses have CU
been to Michigan and USC and both were on the road. Awuzie is the leader of the Buffaloes defense and he’s one of the top Cornerbacks in the country.
CB: Corn Elder – Miami: The Miami Hurricanes are a much improved team this season with a lot of the same players. Elder is one of the team’s top tacklers from his Cornerback position which is always impressive. Elder has 21 tackles with 4 passes broken up and an Interception. He was a star against the Florida State Seminoles in a close loss.
CB: Marshon Lattimore – Ohio State: College football color guy, Matt Millen says the Buckeyes have teh best secondary in the country. I have seen little to argue with Millen. Lattimore is big and physical and he has 15 tackles and he already has 3 Interceptions.
CB: Rashard Fant – Indiana: The Atlanta Georgia native has always been a very tough pass defender. He is usually near the top in passes defended again this season just like he was last year. Fant is on the smaller side at 5-11, 175 but he’s fast and good with his hands, or what they call ball skills.
DB: Eddie Jackson – Alabama: Jackson has been a force for the past two seasons. He is very physical and he is a ball hawk. He is also a top Punt Returner.
DB: Malik Hooker – Ohio State: His spectacular Interception gave Hooker a national rep. Hooker is one of the team’s top tacklers and he already has 4 Interceptions and returned one for a Touchdown.
DB: Donnie Miles – North Carolina: Miles is a tackling machine and led the team in tackles last year and is off again with the lead. He has an amazing 58 tackles after just 6 games. North Carolina was looking like a major player until a beating taken from Virginia Tech. Miles is still one of the best. The Safety from Miami is more like a Linebacker.
DB: Quin Blanding – Virginia: Now a junior, Blanding has been a tackling rascal as a 3 year starter at Virginia.Blanding has an Interception with 46 total tackles. He led his team in tackles as a true freshman and has been near the top the last two seasons.
Kicker: Tyler Davis – Penn State: Perfect on field goals and extra points, so far.
Punter: Johnny Townsend – Florida: Averaging 50 yards a punt at sea level.
Kick Returner: Kylen Towner – Western Kentucky: Averages nearly 49 yards per punt return.
Punt Retrner: Adoree Jackson – USC: One of the more exciting players in the country and a great punt return man.
