Duke made my top 25 Poll this week for beating a tough Boston College and it’s top defense in the country. Boston College held the Duke offense to 33 yards rushing on 35 attempts and 195 yards passing, but Duke pulled out a win, 9 – 7.
Max McCaffrey had his usual steady game with 4 receptions for 35 yards giving him 17 total for the season after 5 games and 229 yards and a Touchdown. Clearly not mind numbing numbers, but he is a reliable receiver for the Duke Blue Devils.
Younger brother, Christian, is continuing to put up big numbers as the Stanford Cardinal starting Running Back. I know a lot of people didn’t see him last night because the Stanford game didn’t get going until after 9:30 Central time.
But, Stanford dominated the Arizona Wildcats in Jim Harbaugh/David Shaw customary style of fundamentally sound power football and great defense.
I will admit, Stanford is one of those teams that I love to watch. It’s good old fashioned smash mouth football where they love to impose their will on the defense especially the front seven and they knock them into eventual submission. Using that strategy, Stanford roughed up Arizona 55-17.
Christian McCaffrey did his part, again, with 156 yards on 17 carries and his first rushing Touchdown for the season. In case you are interested in yards per carry, let me save you digging out the calculator he ran for 9.18 yards per carry.
The entire Stanford backfield ran well going for 314 yards on 46 carries. Including 2 Quarterback sacks on Stanford Quarterback Kevin Hogan, the team averaged nearly 7 yards per carry.
Barry Sanders Jr ran 4 times for 76 yards and a score. Remound Wright, the Touchdown specialist, ran 10 times for 29 yards. Freshman speedster Bryce Love ran 5 times for 40 yards as well.

McCaffrey caught 2 passes for 11 yards. He was ineffective on 4 punt returns, but averaged 49 yards on 2 kickoff returns.
McCaffrey has 601 yards rushing on the season already with a 206 yard effort against Oregon State being his single game best so far.
Back in the heartland, the Valor Christian High School football team improved it’s record to 3-2 on the year with a sound whipping of the formerly 4-1 Overland High School. The Valor Christian Eagles beat the Trailblazers 45-20.
Dylan McCaffrey, the highly recruited third son of the McCaffrey family, threw for 231 yards on 16 completions out of 23 attempts. He threw 3 Touchdown passes against 1 Interception.
McCaffrey also ran for 38 yards on 10 carries and 2 more Touchdowns.
The Stanford Cardinal is 4-1 on the season and so are the Duke Blue Devils. The Valor Christian team is 3-2 and it’s a good time for the McCaffrey family.
