Solomon Thomas Stanford Defensive End

The 2014 recruiting class is known for great Running Backs like Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, Dalvin Cook, Christian McCaffrey and many others.

But, Solomon Thomas was yet another outstanding member of that recruiting class.

He was rated a 4 star recruit by most of the major services such as Rivals, 247 and ESPN. But, Scout had him as a 5 star.

During his National Signing Day Press Conference in Coppell, Texas, Thomas announced which school he was attending in a creative way.  Sitting between his parents, he reached beneath the table and pulled out a small evergreen tree and put some nerdy glasses on in honor of the Stanford Nerd

Nation of 2013.

Stanford had some seniors in it’s Defensive Line in 2014, so Thomas did not play.

But, in 2014, he was forced into playing duty by default if nothing else. The Cardinal had almost no depth at all in the Defensive Line.

Thomas started at Nose Guard while seniors Azziz Shittu and Brennan Scarlett started at the Ends in Stanford’s 3-4 defense.

Solomon Thomas moved to Defensive End in the Spring and clearly he has had a good off season. He is ripped and he totally dominated in the Spring Game.

Last season, while playing inside, he was 10th on the team in tackles. Look for those numbers to increase by bunches this season as he is back to his more natural End Position.

Luke Kaumatule could start at the other end. Jordan Watkins, a senior, really impressed me in the Spring Game. Dylan Jackson and Eric Cotton will provide playing time and depth until the freshmen arrive.

I already wrote about incoming freshman Thomas Schaffer here: the Terminator

Texan Mike Williams was highly sought after and many tried to lure him away from Stanford at the last moment. Stanford Coach David Shaw may not like to play freshmen, but Williams is 6-2, 305 coming in.

Bo Peek is from Tampa, Florida and only a 3 star, but the Cardinal has done well with this kind of

player in the past. The Stanford coaching staff came out of Indiana with one of their best recruits in Jovan Swann.

These guys are young, but the Cardinal will rely on them for instant depth.

Football is more than just natural ability, although that does help. If a player has that work ethic to succeed in the college game and beyond it’s going to be pretty obvious. Clearly, Solomon Thomas has that work ethic and you can tell that just by looking at him and the way he is transforming his physical attributes.

Solomon Thomas will be one of the top Defensive Ends in the country in 2016.
