Nate Peterman Pittsburgh

Nate Peterman signed with the Tennessee Volunteers out of high school in the class of 2012 with their previous coaching staff.

He was a 3 star recruit out of Jacksonville, Florida.

He redshirted as a true freshman and then backed up Justin Worley as a redshirt freshman. Fellow freshman Joshua Dobbs, who had not redshirted passed Peterman on the depth chart. The plan in

2014, supposedly, was to redshirt Dobbs as a sophomore and to use Peterman as a back up to Justin Worley.

But, Worley was lost for the year. The coaches tried playing Peterman as a redshirt freshman and he was unimpressive.

He was forced into playing time as a sophomore in 2014 when Worley was injured and gone for the season and for his career. Peterman did not look good at all and the coaches were forced to play Joshua Dobbs who took the job and turned the Volunteers program around.

Nate Peterman was his back up.

Peterman graduated in his 3rd year at Tennessee and he could clearly see the writing on the wall.

Looking around for another school to play football, Peterman decided on Pittsburgh where he would have to compete with returning starter Chad Voytik. Ironically, Voytik is from Tennessee.

Pittsburgh had just hired long time Michigan State Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi as their new head coach.

After a spirited battle, Peterman beat out Voytik for the starting job and he looked completely different than he had in Tennessee.

He completed over 61% of his passes when he was less than 50% at Tennessee.

For the season, he threw for 2,287 yards and 20 Touchdowns. He also showed surprising mobility running for 232 yards and another score.

Peterman is listed as 6-2, 225 and he may, or may not, get a shot at an NFL career. But, he has proven that he can play a little bit at Pittsburgh.

For those thinking his current success is because he’s playing in the ACC now instead of the SEC, then explain Chad Kelly of Ole Miss who lost out at Clemson to Deshaun Watson and he transferred out. Also, Jake Coker just won a national title at Alabama when he couldn’t start at Florida State of the ACC. Greyson Lambert started at Georgia after being beaten out for the job at Virginia.

Nate Peterman has one more year of eligibility at Pittsburgh. He did lose his go to guy when Tyler Boyd left for the big bucks of the NFL, but they return their entire Offensive Line and last year’s 1,000 yard rusher Qadree Ollison returns as should James Conner who was lost for the year in their first game last season. Conner

The Panthers need some Wide Receivers to step up, but they have some Tight Ends returning and they have added UCLA transfer Chris Clark. Hopefully, Clark will stick around because he’s a talent and he’s 6-6, 250.

Peterman had a slow start in 2015 splitting time in the first two games with Peterman. Voytik has since transferred to Arkansas State where he will be eligible immediately.

Keep an eye on Peterman this season.
