Barry Sanders Last Chance

Not that Barry Sanders, I am talking about Barry Sanders Jr and he has one more year to prove himself in college football.

I have always thought he should have gotten more playing time at Stanford. I do realize that Christian McCaffrey is one of the top backs in the country, but Sanders always impressed when he got the opportunity.

After several years as a back up at Stanford, Barry Sanders Jr graduated. He chose to finish out his career at his Dad’s school, Oklahoma State.

Sanders has transferred to Oklahoma State and he will be eligible for the 2016 season.

It must be tough being the son of a legend and Barry Sanders, the Dad, was definitely one of the top players to ever play the game.

In 3 seasons at Stanford, Jr rushed for 701 yards which was about as much as Sr ran for in a couple of games during his Heisman winning season.

Chris Carson led the Oklahoma State Cowboys in rushing last year with 517 yards and he is coming back for his senior season.

Raymond Taylor ran for 297 yards last season, but he chose to transfer out of Oklahoma State to finish his eligibility.

Rennie Childs and Jeff Carr also return. Childs ran for 281 yards and Carr for 142.

The Cowboys signed 3 star Running Backs LD Brown from DeSoto, Texas and Justice Hill from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will have a rather crowded backfield next season with 6 Running Backs on the roster.

There’s definitely no guarantee that Barry Sanders Jr will even get to play.

One thing he does have going on in his corner is that when his father played Running Back for the Cowboys back in 1988, his Quarterback was none other than Mike Gundy.

Gundy has been the head coach at Oklahoma State since 2005.

Barry Sanders Jr is about 5-10, 200 and has some really good speed and moves. We don’t know about durability because he has never started at the college level.

Maybe we all put a little too much pressure on Barry Sanders Jr just because of his name.

He was a 4 star recruit back in the 2012 recruiting class from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He had a nice, but not spectacular high school career at Heritage Hall High School. He ran for over 1,000 yards in his last 3 seasons of high school after running for 258 yards as a freshman. For his entire 4 seasons of high school football, he ran for 3,825 yards and 55 Touchdowns. That’s not a bad number for anybody. That’s anybody that is not the son of one of the all time greatest Running Backs.

People were expecting Barry Sanders Jr to be as good as Barry Sanders and frankly that’s a pretty much impossible task.

Barry Sanders Jr has one more season to prove himself, but he will have to beat out 5 other guys with the same kind of dreams.
