Another Amazing Week for the McCaffrey Family October 24th

I have written several times about the McCaffrey family on this blog. I really don’t know any of them and I would love to hear from any of them, or anybody that knows them personally.

The entire country is finding out about Christian McCaffrey and just how good he is as a Running Back. Well, those people from outside of the Southeast portion of this country are hearing about Christian McCaffrey.

But, not that many people know much about his older brother, Max, at Duke.

The Duke Blue Devils won the ACC Coastal Division in 2013 and got obliterated by Florida State in their national championship run and Duke finished up in the Peach Bowl with a last minute loss to Texas A$M and it’s Quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Duke finished it’s season at 10-4, which is awesome for a basketball school that’s never really been know for it’s football. Head coach David Cutcliffe has come along and changed things at Duke when coaches like Steve Spurrier really couldn’t. Although, Spurrier actually did all right at Duke. After starting out 5-6, he led the Blue Devils to 7-3-1 and 8-4 seasons before going home to the Florida Gators. But, the Duke football program has been a tough place to win over the years and David Cutcliffe has them playing at another level than years past.

Duke was 9-4 in Max McCaffrey’s junior year in 2014, while Georgia Tech shocked everyone and won the ACC Coastal Division. Duke still battled to a second place finish and they were a pretty solid team.

This season, Duke is battling an improved Pittsburgh and an also improved North Carolina for the Coastal championship. All three schools are 6-1 on the season, with Pittsburgh sporting a nice 4-0, while Duke and North Carolina are tied at 3-0 in the Conference.

Duke and rival ACC member Virginia Tech went toe to toe this past Saturday in one of the better games of the season so far. It took 4 Overtimes, but the Duke Blue Devils held on and won a wild and crazy game 45 to 43. Blacksburg, Virginia can be a difficult venue for opposing football teams, and Duke impressively survived a dogfight.

Max McCaffrey was instrumental in the win for Duke with 6 receptions for 94 yards and 2 Touchdowns. McCaffrey is now tied with Johnell Barnes for the team lead in receptions with 25 on the season.

Duke Quarterback Thomas Sirk had an incredible game throwing for 270 yards and 4 Touchdowns and running for 109 yards.

Out in the West, the Stanford Cardinal has taken the lead in the Pac 12 Conference. However, kind of surprisingly Stanford’s biggest challenger in the North Division of the Pac 12 is Washington State. The Cougars lost early to Portland State, then beat two bad teams, before losing again to California. After that loss, the Cougars have fought hard and beat Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona.

The Cougars are a dangerous opponent for the Stanford Cardinal.

Stanford is 6-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. But, they have games coming up with Washington State at Pullman, Washington on Halloween Night making it even more dangerous for them.

They also have California, Oregon and California in conference play before closing with Notre

Dame. Stanford has a tough road ahead.

Christian McCaffrey has done more than his share of getting the Cardinal in it’s present state. Last week, McCaffrey broke the Stanford rushing record with 243 yards and 4 Touchdowns in a big win over UCLA.

This week wasn’t quite so sensational, but the latest opponent Washington has a much better defense than UCLA.

McCaffrey ran for 109 yards on 23 carries bringing is yearly total up to 953 yards. Washington State has an incredible offense year after year, but they also have a really bad defense and McCaffrey should have a nice game against them.

Younger McCaffrey, Dylan, was involved in a defensive battle against Cherry Creek but the Valor Christian Eagles wound up winning 10-0.

McCaffrey completed 8 out of 17 passes for 147 yards and a Touchdown. His stats look even worse when you consider that he threw a 97 yard Touchdown pass in the Eagles only Touchdown of the game.

He ran 7 times for only 8 yards.

The old joke where the guy with the beat up face who had clearly been in a brawl says ‘you should see the other guy’ clearly applies here. Cherry Creek’s Quarterback completed only 9 out of 25 passes for 104 yards and he ran for a negative 27 yards on 11 carries.

On the season, Dylan McCaffrey has 1,773 yards passing and 273 yards rushing, so far.

Dylan McCaffrey is still a junior in high school. What college will gain his commitment?

A lot of people are thinking Stanford because of his parents and his older brother, Christian. Stanford has a strong pull because of family history, but also because of the development of Andrew Luck.

There’s also the possibility of Duke because of oldest brother Max and because his grandfather went there. But, also, David Cutcliffe coached Peyton and Eli Manning, plus recently he has transformed Duke’s football program and developed current Quarterback Thomas Sirk.

Michigan and Jim Harbaugh could be an option. Who could pass up playing for Harbaugh.

Notre Dame could be an interesting possibility. But, like I mentioned in the beginning I do not know the McCaffrey’s and I have no idea who Dylan McCaffrey might pick to play his college ball.

We still have Luke McCaffrey, hopefully, waiting in the wings and I understand he might be a talented Quarterback prospect as well.

Valor Christian improved it’s record to 6-2 on the season and apparently has a pretty tough defense.

Come back next week for the latest updates on a pretty amazing family.
