Devin Bush Father and Son: Florida State and Michigan

People that may talk about Florida State’s first national championship in football in 1993 and when they do, Charlie Ward more than likely comes to mind, first. That’s only fitting since he was the Quarterback and the leader of that team. Plus, he was the 1993 Heisman Trophy winner.

But, that team was loaded. Derrick Brooks, Ken Alexander, Derrick Alexander, Clifton Abraham, Warrick Dunn, Corey Sawyer, Clay Shiver, Tamarick Vanover, and Devin Bush were also on that team. That doesn’t even include other talents like Pooh Bear Williams, Sean Jackson, Kez McCorvey, Danny Kanell, Matt Frier and so many more.

Even though this team was upset in South Bend, Indiana by Notre Dame, they were still one of the all time great teams.

Strong Safety Devin Bush was a sophomore on that team. The Alexanders, Ken and Derrick, led the

team in tackles. But, Bush was 5th on the team in total tackles with 50. Plus, he had 1 Interception that he returned 40 yards for a Touchdown.

Bush was an All ACC selection that season.

A lot of those guys returned for the 1994 season, but Charlie Ward moved on to the NBA and Danny Kanell was the starting Quarterback as the Seminoles finished 10-1-1. They lost to the hated Miami Hurricanes and tied the equally hated Florida Gators.

Devin Bush was close to the top of the team leader board in tackles and he picked off 2 passes and recovered a fumble.

Bush left school early and was a first round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1995 NFL Draft.  He played 8 seasons in the NFL with the Falcons, St Louis Rams and the Cleveland Browns.

In 2013, Devin Bush was hired as a football coach at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Flanagan High School was loaded with talent this past season and the top guy very well could be Devin Bush Jr.

Bush Jr was a highly recruited 4 star Linebacker that was rated as the 12th best at his position. Probably, he is rated only 12th is because he is 5-11 instead of the 6-3 height that scouts seem to drool over. But, Bush Jr is about 225 to 230 and he hits like an out of control 18 wheeler on an icy road.

The Michigan Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh beat the hordes and signed Devin Bush Jr in 2016.

To make things sweeter the Wolverines also signed teammates Joshua Metellus and Devin Gil. Both, were recruited as Defensive Backs where Michigan is loaded and deep.

But, Bush comes in as a Linebacker and the Wolverines could use help in a hurry. I believe Bush

starts as a true freshman this next season.

Michigan pulled out all the stops to land Devin Bush Jr. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh hired his father, Devin Bush Sr, as a defensive analyst.

It’s not quite as hard to pick up and move across the country when you take mom and dad with you.

Former standout Safety and two way player Jabrill Peppers has moved to Linebacker at Michigan and he should team up with Bush to form a pretty deadly Linebacker combo this next season.

Harbaugh lose his Defensive Coordinator when he was hired to take over the program at Maryland. No worries, Harbaugh just went out and got maybe the best one in the entire country. Harbaugh hired Don Brown away from Boston College. If you’ve seen Boston College play in recent years, they

fielded one of the nation’s best defenses with all unheralded players.

Don Brown could make Michigan’s defense scary good.

Devin Bush Jr is definitely a player to keep an eye on for the coming season. He could be a great one just like his father.
