Lamar Jackson and Louisville

Deshaun Watson is far and away considered the top Quarterback in the country. But, as Lee Corso would say, ‘not so fast’.

Lamar Jackson of Louisville should make any long time football observer think of Michael Vick in his days at Virginia Tech. Jackson is like Vince Young of Texas, only quicker and faster top end and with a much better arm

I love Watson, but Jackson makes the bottom of your mouth drop open. I hate to use the overused

descriptive words, jaw dropping, but that is exactly what you get when you watch Lamar Jackson. To say this sophomore Quarterback is incredible is not really giving him full credit. He is beyond amazing.

Against Syracuse, and I do realize they are not a very good team right now, but the kind of night that Lamar Jackson had against the Orange is much better than anyone else is doing against weaker teams.

Jackson, and Louisville will be a force as the season progresses and he might lead his Cardinals to a surprise finish in the ACC. Good luck stopping Lamar Jackson and Wide Receivers James Quick, Jamari Staples and Jaylen Smith.

This team, and Lamar Jackson, are good, but the question comes up of whether they can do these things against Clemson and Florida State. We will find out as the season progresses and I am looking forward to it very much.

Jackson used his NFL quality arm to complete 20 out of 39 passing attempts for an amazing 411 yards and a score. He did throw his first Interception of the season.

On the ground, Jackson ran for 199 yards and 4 Touchdowns. These stats come after running for 119 yards and 2 Touchdowns and passing for 286 yards and 6 Touchdowns. He’s already run for 6 Touchdowns and thrown for 8 Touchdowns after 2 games.

The Louisville Cardinals are averaging 66 points per game after 2 games, and again I do realize they are not playing Alabama in either of these games.

Tune in next week, on September 17th, when Louisville travels to Tallahassee, Florida to take on the 2nd ranked Seminoles. That could be one of the games of the season. Then, we will see just how good the 10th ranked Louisville Cardinals are. On the same line of thinking, we will also see how

good Florida State is in the 2016 season. Winner of this game could have something to say in the ACC and playoff standings. Clemson is also standing in the way.

Also, don’t sleep on Syracuse. Their defense is a little lacking, but as head coach Dino Babers would say right now ‘orange is the new fast’.

I blogged about Syracuse Quarterback Eric Dungey recently and he was way overshadowed in this game by the astounding Lamar Jackson. But, Dungey is also a Quarterback to be followed as he gains experience in Dino Babers’ offense. Dungey

Babers will turn around this Syracuse program and it will happen quickly.

Randomly, how about the Quarterbacks in the ACC this season?

Deshaun Watson at Clemson, Lamar Jackson at Syracuse, Deondre Francois at Florida State, Justin Thomas at Georgia Tech, Brad Kaaya at Miami, Mitch Trubisky at North Carolina, Nate Peterman at Pittsburgh, Dungey at Syracuse, and maybe Jerod Evans at Virginia Tech.

No other conference can boast such a collection of talented signal callers and it’s really not even close.
