Along Comes the Great Grandson of the Greatest College Coach

It seems like a lifetime ago, and for some it was.

He was one of the first college coaches I remember and I was a fan. Often, when a big game came on, there he was on the sidelines wearing his famous Houndstooth hat. The first 16 years of watching football, he was always there. After a mediocre season in 1982 in which they lost to public enemy number one, Auburn, and Bear Bryant called it quits. He passed away just a short time later.

I am not one of those guys that cries over tragedy that happens to people I don’t know. I didn’t cry when the Space Shuttle Columbia exploded killing all 7 passengers. I was stunned on 9/11, but I was also at my dying father’s house taking care of him and he passed away just a few days later.

Even though I am not much for crying over strangers, I will admit the sadness that I felt on the day

that Bear Bryant died. An era was gone, a giant of the game was no more.

He was a legend, and in my book, most likely the best college football coach ever. He was the Bear and larger than life and not just in Alabama.

It seems everyone in the great state of Alabama is named after the Bear and it shouldn’t be a surprise that his great grandson is also.

Some may think that Bear was Bear Bryant’s first name, but it was really Paul. Now, about 35 years after the Bear passed away, great grandson Paul Bryant Tyson is on the recruiting radar. Tyson is a member of the class of 2019 and offers are starting to roll for the young man.

At Hewitt-Trussville, Paul Tyson played on the junior varsity last year as a sophomore, so he lacks varsity experience. But, after the Spring practices began, the offers began arriving.

Probably, Alabama will not recruit Paul Bryant Tyson with Saban switching to the more mobile Quarterbacks.

But, plenty of other schools are interested.

Nordberg reached more recognition after his career by appearing buying viagra canada in a lot of really popular series of beer commercials for Miller Lite. This was known as viagra purchase on line the ‘magic ligature’.
Shockingly, Tyson also has his eyes elsewhere. I’m sure he loves Alabama, but he would always be the great grandson of the man with statues formed in his likeness.

He likes Clemson and Dabo Swinney is a friend. Swinney played at Alabama and is from Birmingham originally. Clemson is a very real possibility, but they have the top Quarterback in the nation from last year, Hunter Johnson on campus and they have the best from this year committed, Trevor Lawrence. Clemson may not be a school that can offer a Quarterback playing time.

But, Tyson is a strong young Christian man and Dabo Swinney is also a strong Christian so it might be a perfect match. Plus, Clemson is on top of the college football world right now.

Tyson also likes Notre Dame and is very interested in them. Bear Bryant’s great grandson at Notre Dame? The Fighting Irish beat him twice in bowl games and once for the national championship.

But, to forgive is divine, and Alabama probably won’t offer him, anyway.

It remains to be seen if the Fighting Irish will be interested.

Paul Tyson is more than likely still growing, but as a high school junior next season he should be about 6-4, 210. According to his high school coach, he can make all of the throws and he has a very strong arm. The only highlights I have seen of Tyson are of his Spring Game recently and you can see for one thing why the offers are suddenly rolling in. He certainly looks the part of big time Quarterback.

He’s not a runner, but he’s fast enough and strong enough to escape the pass rush and to make throws while on the run. Plus, his coach appears to be correct. He does have a strong arm and he can throw the ball deep very well.

Paul Bryant Tyson is a name to remember over the next few seasons. He could be a really good one. He’s more than just your average legacy recruit. He’s a talented young guy and he will play college football somewhere.

I don’t know if people that have moved on to the afterlife really follow what’s happening back here on earth, but if they do, Bear Bryant must be very proud of his great grandson.
