1. Leonard Fournette – LSU: The 6-1, 230 sophomore is on fire right now and even though the Tiger’s first game was canceled due to weather, he did go crazy in game 2 with 159 yards and 3 Touchdowns against Mississippi State. In game two, Fournette ran for 71 yards on his first carry of the game against Auburn and he kept getting better. He finished with 228 yards and 3 Touchdowns. Fournette has 387 yards rushing after 2 games and with Syracuse and Eastern Michigan coming up
his yardage should increase as his Heisman potential continues to grow.
2. Nick Chubb – Georgia: Chubb was a huge surprise as a freshman and that has continued in 2015. After 3 games, Chubb has 468 yards at 8.36 yards per carry. But, Chubb shares carries with fellow sophomore super star Sony Michel and with Keith Marshall. Chubb is similar in build to Fournette at 5-10, 230 and similar in speed. Both are outstanding Running Backs and capable of leading their teams to conference titles and winning the Heisman.
3. Trevone Boykin – TCU: Boykin was probably the front runner going in, but the SEC players have probably passed him by. The senior from Dallas has thrown for 985 yards and 10 Touchdowns. He is also gifted with his feet, but has not run as much this season with only 148 yards rushing and 2 Touchdowns. The Frogs are 3-0 and ranked #2 right now but they have tough games coming up with Oklahoma and Baylor. The only shot Boykin will have is if they win out, in my opinion. A playoff bound Boykin might have a shot at unseating a Fournette or a Chubb. Plus, he is one of the few legitimate candidates that plays Quarterback which might give him an advantage.
4. Ezekiel Elliott – Ohio State: The Buckeye star is starting to fade. After 3 games, the entire offense is struggling with Elliott breaking 100 yards in all 3 games, but only totaling 331 yards and 4 Touchdowns. The Buckeyes are still undefeated, but they need to pick up the offensive numbers if
Elliott is going to have a chance at a Heisman. Elliott is another talented big back with great speed at 6-0, 225.
5. Dalvin Cook – Florida State: Cook is an incredible long shot, but is a very talented Sophomore. He came on strong at the end of the 2014 season and continued back this year where he left off. Boston College held him in check last Friday, but he also sat out part of the game with an injury. In the Seminoles first game, Cook ran for 156 yards and a couple of Touchdowns. But, in their second game, he exploded for 266 yards and 3 Touchdowns. He only ran for 54 yards against the Eagles of Boston College. Cook will need to stay out of trouble and Florida State is not getting a lot of respect these days. Cook is a speed back.

Paul Perkins – UCLA: I wrote about Perkins several times before in my blog http://collegefootballcrazy.com/uclas-number-24s/ Perkins ran for over 1,500 yards a season ago and he’s well on his way this season to at least equaling that amount. In 3 games, Perkins has run for 429 yards and 3 Touchdowns. His best game, so far, was last week against BYU when he ran for 219 yards. Perkins is a long shot at best, but he has a shot at an outstanding season.
7. Cody Kessler – USC: The Trojans and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have more Heisman Trophy winners than anyone which is why I have included him on this list. The Trojans blew it against rival Stanford last week and they will need to win a bunch of games. Kessler had an amazing junior season throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and 39 Touchdowns with only 5 Interceptions. This season, he is already up to 922 yards through the air with 10 touchdowns and he has yet to throw a pick.
8. Jordan Howard – Indiana: Howard transferred from the University of Alabama at Birmingham when they dropped football and he stepped right in for the departed Tevin Coleman for the Hoosiers and he may turn out to be even better. At 6-1, 230, he is a definitely a power back along the lines of Leonard Fournette, Nick Chubb, and Ezekiel Elliott. So far in 3 games, Howard has run for 507 yards and 3 Touchdowns. If Howard is to have any chance at all at winning this prestigious award, he will need his Quarterback Nate Sudfeld to remain healthy unlike last season. 9. Derrick Henry – Alabama: Henry is the greatest high school Running Back of all time having broken a national record over 60 years old. I wrote about his achievements here: Sugarland Express
Henry ran for just under 1,000 yards last season, but he split time with present NFL Running Back TJ Yeldon. He is a huge Running Back at 6-3, 245, but he also has really good speed much like Fournette and Chubb. This season, instead of Yeldon, he is splitting time with Kenyan Drake, but he has still run for 370 yards and 7 Touchdowns
10. Robert Nkemdiche – Ole Miss: I don’t believe Nkemdiche will make any top 10 Heisman voting lists, but if he plays up to capabilities in 2015 maybe he should make at least top 5 or 10. Nkemdiche has 11 tackles on the season right now, with half a sack and 3.5 tackles for loss. Nkemdiche has played a little on the Offensive side of the ball running for a Touchdown and catching a pass for another Touchdown of 31 yards. If Nkemdiche can pick up his sack totals and tackles for loss he might have chance at finishing well.
