The Colorado State Rams have already played 2 games while most of the country has yet to play. During, and after, their first big victory over a really terrible Oregon State team, that might be beyond repair under the current coaching staff, the talking heads really went wild. They proclaimed the Rams a possible playoff team and definitely a New Year’s day team.
They, the media, are now calling those New Year’s day games the ‘New Year’s Six’. Hey, try to keep up with the times here.

Colorado State was crowned a New Year’s Six team.
Sometimes, when there’s nobody else in the room, I do admit that I talk to the television. I know that’s weird and I know they can’t hear me, but sometimes I just have to get it out.
Tap the brakes on this New Year’s Six garbage talk. This reminds of a couple of years ago after
Alabama lost to Ole Miss for the second year in a row. If the talking heads had really watched the game, they would have seen that Ole Miss was very fortunate and got a lot of huge breaks. Freak accidents happen in football and the Ole Miss Rebels seemed to have Alabama’s number. The media all said that the Crimson Tide and Nick Saban’s dynasty was over. It was just over. Unfortunately for them, the Alabama Crimson Tide beat Clemson in a really good game to win yet another title.
The following season, they all jumped back on the Alabama bandwagon. It was kind of sad, and I will never forget it.
Now, these same people were proclaiming Colorado State as the team to beat.
Tap the brakes a little bit there, folks. Getting ahead of ourselves again just like most feeding frenzies.
On Friday, September 1st 2017 which just happens to also be my birthday, all that Rams to the Playoffs talk came crashing to the turf. The home state rivalry between the Colorado State Rams and the Colorado Buffaloes didn’t fare so well for the New Year’s Six team.
Colorado beat Colorado State 17-3.
The Buffaloes were fortunate that a couple of touchdown passes by the Rams were called back, but they still mostly dominated their rivals holding them to 88 yards rushing on the night.
That’s in the first game for the Buffs after losing most of their defensive starters and mostly their defensive coordinator who left to join Willie Taggart in Oregon.
I just had the incredible thought during the Colorado State stomping of the Oregon State Beavers that maybe we should let the season play out a little bit before proclaiming the Rams the kings of the entire west. Maybe they should be required to win at least 2 games before anointing them the best
team in the country.
Other than Ryan Nall, who is little used, and maybe Jordan Villamin, the Beavers might be the worst Division 1 team in the country. But, unlike the media, I don’t want to place that crown of thorns on their heads just yet. If they want to waste an incredible talent like the Wrecking Nall game after game, that’s on their conscience not mine. The Beaver defense might be the worst in the nation this season and playing against them does not make the Colorado State Rams the second coming of the 2001 Miami Hurricanes exactly.
Media Schmedia.
When I first started this blog in 2014, I thought I could just email a famous player and get a response. I thought I could just dial one up and he would be more than happy to oblige some poor barely starting out blogger with a short little interview. I found out differently and it was not all just about being harassed.
When I met Lloyd Carr because he moved right across the street from my lovely daughter and family, one of the first things I thought of was getting an interview. Maybe I could even write a book about his life and winning the national championship. But, upon meeting him and getting to know him I found out some things. Lloyd Carr is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He told me that he didn’t really want to do an official interview because he was tired of the media misquoting him. After talking to him for a while, he agreed to do an interview out of the kindness of his heart.
But, after hearing that he got 50 calls about Tom Brady before the Super Bowl, I refused to write some of the things he told me.
The media will basically say anything to get a rise out of people whether it is right, or it is wrong. They really could care less about getting it right, they just want a story.
How about holding off before proclaiming Alabama is in decay, or Colorado State is on the rise, until we have some actual physical evidence that this is the case. Colorado State scored 58 points in it’s opening game. Impressive. But, they were handed 5 turnovers and they also gave up 27 points to a really bad team with a brand new quarterback and a horrid defense.
Hey media folks, one game does not a season make. Colorado State is an improved team over last season, but they still have some work to do and the season is very long. The Rams might prove to be a pretty good team still, but we have a long way to go and they are now 1-1.
