Another McCaffrey Weekend November 7th

Marquis Williams, the senior Quarterback at North Carolina does not get enough national attention and he and his North Carolina teammates ruined Duke and Max McCaffrey’s day on Saturday.

Williams was 23 out of 35 passing for 494 yards and 4 Touchdowns and that was only in 3 quarters because the North Carolina coaches pulled him in the 4th quarter when the score was out of hand.

This game was basically over before it got going and North Carolina took control of the ACC Coastal with a convincing 66-31 win over Duke.

Max McCaffrey, the oldest of the children of Ed and Lisa McCaffrey caught 4 passes for only 25 yards. The entire team struggled, but especially the defense as Marquise Williams proved he deserves some media attention.

McCaffrey took one hit from North Carolina’s leading tackler on a fourth down conversion that I would not have gotten up from. It was right in the lower back area and it had to hurt, but he held on to the ball in true Ed McCaffrey fashion and got his team the first down.

On the very next play, Quarterback Thomas Sirk made sure that McCaffrey’s pain was even more justified by running the ball 53 yards right up the middle and through the blocking of outstanding Duke Center Matt Skura. It was too little, too late as the Tar Heels just handed it to the Duke Blue

Devils.

To demonstrate how bad it was for Duke on Saturday, Sirk threw the ball towards McCaffrey but the pass was off a little and hit  a defender and bounced up in the air and was picked off, setting up the Tar Heels for another score.

Things were much different for younger brother Christian McCaffrey. They faced a much improved Colorado team on the road in Boulder, Colorado.

Stanford apparently hadn’t heard that the Colorado Buffaloes were a much better team and came out and drilled them 42-10.

Christian McCaffrey was his usual impressive self while running for 147 yards on 23 carries. As a receiver out of the backfield, he caught 3 passes for 15 yards.

He had 12 yards on a Punt return and 46 yards on 2 Kick Off returns.

McCaffrey even threw a 28 yard Touchdown pass.

Take that other Heisman contenders, a Touchdown pass to top off everything else.

Colorado has been a door mat for several years in the Pac 12, but this team is different. Yes, they are only 4-6 on the season. However, they have played tough in some of those losses including a 31-35 loss to UCLA.

Stanford just rolled over them and are showing signs of being the team many of us thought they would be this season.

Third son, Dylan is in the playoffs at Valor Christian High School. Dylan threw for 212 yards and 5 Touchdowns on 13 completions to lead his Eagles to a 50 – 14 win over Legend High School.

Dylan McCaffrey also ran for 43 yards on 4 carries.

McCaffrey’s back up is Blake Stenstrom who is the son of former Stanford and NFL Quarterback Steve Stenstrom. The younger Stenstrom completed 3 out of 3 passes for 32 yards and another Touchdown. Dylan McCaffrey has one more year at Valor Christian and then Blake Stenstrom will compete with Luke McCaffrey for the starting job.
