Sorry, Joey Bosa, but………

Sorry, Joey Bosa, but your younger brother may be better than you. In case you aren’t up to date with college football news, Joey Bosa plays Defensive End for Ohio State and could be the top pick in the next NFL Draft. Little brother Nick Bosa is a senior at St Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. He is the top rated Defensive End in the country and has committed to Ohio State to follow his older brother. I wrote about the family previously here: Big Tuna

With college football getting a late start this year, there’s no better time to catch up some high school football and some major college prospects.

Two of the premier high school programs in all of the United States met up in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. If you are a college football fan, or even just an NFL fan, you have seen some players from St Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. The same is true for their opening game opponent, Miami Booker T Washington.

These schools are loaded with top prospects year after year.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Member Michael Irvin, Brian Piccolo, Major Wright, Phillip Dorsett, Geno Atkins, Giovani Bernard, Marcus Gilbert and so many others played football at St Thomas Aquinas.

In this game, Nick Bosa played Nose Guard, Defensive End and Tight End. On his first defensive play, Bosa just absolutely crushed the Booker T Washington Center and knocked him back into the backfield which in turn tripped up the ball carrier resulting in a big loss for Washington High School. He kept heat on the Quarterbacks all night and was dominating as a blocking Tight End.

Teammate Michael Irvin II is a transfer from Plano Prestonwood High School in Texas, and is 6-3, 220 and much bigger than dad at same age.

Like his Pro Football Hall of Fame father, Irvin II is a Wide Receiver. One of the other star Wide Receivers for St Thomas Aquinas is Sam Bruce, the nephew of former NFL great Isaac Bruce. Both Irvin and Bruce are committed to Miami and could be super stars on the next level.

Aquinas Running Back Henry Cole is committed to Utah and junior Quarterback Jake Allen is committed to Florida.

Another outstanding junior, Trevon Grimes, is a 6-4, 190 speedy Wide Receiver and is considering a lot of programs including Ohio State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson and Florida. The guy’s a player.

Washington had won the last 3 state championships in Florida in 4A, and 41 straight games.

They will always have college prospects of their own, but this team returned only 1 starter on defense and very few starters on offense. Plus, they were not decided on a Quarterback and finally settled on a freshman.

High school freshmen Quarterbacks are generally not going to do very well againstĀ  a school of the caliber of a Fort Lauderdale and that turned out to be the case in this blowout.

It’s way too hot in Southern Florida and players like Nick Bosa seemed out of oxygen pretty early in the game and there is a mandatory water break.

St. Thomas Aquinas hammered Miami Booker T. Washington 35-3 and it probably wasn’t even that close.

With the lack of college games on, the high schools came up big this weekend with not only this game, but the Bishop Gorman out of Las VegasĀ  match up with Chandler, Arizona. Both of those programs produce a lot of talent especially Bishop Gorman. The

In Texas, Euless Trinity took on storied De La Salle out of California. Arlington Martin played DeSoto a powerhouse that is loaded with prospects year after year.

Back in the East, Spartanburg, South Carolina traveled down to Wakulla, Florida. Tavien Foster of Spartanburg is committed to Clemson and Wakulla has Quarterback Felippe Franks an LSU commit. Plus, Wakulla has former Florida State commit Keith Gavin.

Another Miami powerhouse, Central High School traveled up to DeMatha, Maryland to play another talent laden school.

In talent rich Ohio, Benedictine took on Central Catholic.

Next week, college football will be off and running and there won’t be much time for the high school games, but it was an enjoyable weekend of big time match ups.
