Arizona: It was not the best of seasons for either Arizona or Anu Solomon, but he returns for his junior season in 2016 with 2 years of playing time behind him. As a redshirt freshman in 2014, Solomon was impressive and threw for over 3,700 yards and 28 Touchdowns. This past year, his numbers were way down with 2,600 yards and 20 Touchdowns. But, he missed playing time due to injuries.
Solomon’s main back up last year was Jarrard Randall and he was a senior. Brandon Dawkins was a freshman last season and played a little and I wouldn’t be surprised if he stole the job from Solomon somewhere down the road. Dawkins is a much better runner and athlete.
In the 2016 recruiting class the Wildcats have a commitment from 4 star Dual Threat Quarterback Khalil Tate. My prediction is that Solomon keeps his job, but they work Dawkins in the lineup more and more.
Arizona State: The Sun Devils lost Mike Bercovici and not another Quarterback on the roster got to throw a single pass. Manny Wilkins got to take a few snaps and ran for 41 yards, but he never threw the ball.
Last season’s recruiting class brought in one of the nation’s best Quarterbacks in Brady White from Newhall, California and he may be the long term solution at Quarterback for the Sun Devils. But, they also signed Bryce Perkins another 4 star from Chandler, Arizona. In the next recruiting class, they have a commitment from Houston, Texas 4 star Dillon Sterling-Cole. The Spring should be interesting in Tempe with Wilkins, White and Perkins battling for the job.
California: Jared Goff is off to the NFL, leaving the Golden Bears with a Quarterback race for 2016. Redshirt freshman and sophomore to be Chase Forrest was the only other Quarterback to throw the ball last season for the Golden Bears. He could be the heir apparent. But, Ross Bowers is a 4 star from last year that redshirted.
The Bears have a commitment from Westlake Village Quarterback Max Gilliam. Goff started as a true freshman, but the program is light years from where it was when he arrived.
Colorado: Sefo Liufau returns for his senior year and he should keep his job. Over his three year career, he has thrown for 7,396 yards. When Liufau was injured last season, he was replaced by Cade Apsay. The Buffaloes also have senior Jordan Gehrke who played a little bit. On the roster, they have freshman Steven Montez who redshirted.
From Beaverton, Oregon the Buffs have a commitment from Sam Noyer for this recruiting class.
Oregon: The Ducks have gotten themselves into a one and done situation with Vernon Adams around for the 2015 season, but gone for 2016. Jeff Lockie will be a senior next season, but he struggled in the Alamo Bowl. Dakota Prukup, from Montana State, becomes this year’s Vernon Adams as he is transferring to Oregon for his senior year. The Spring and Fall will decide if he is on the same level as Adams. There will be more competition from redshirt freshman Travis Jonsen who was a 4 star last year. Taylor Afie is a former walk-on that has been good in very limited playing time and from what we have seen of him in the Spring Games. Morgan Mahalak has asked to transfer, but the final decision has apparently not been made yet. He has already redshirted and that would be another year wasted for him if he leaves, but that’s Quarterbacks for you.
An intriguing prospect for the Ducks is DeSoto, Texas 4 star prospect Tristen Wallace who is 6-3, 225 and seemingly a perfect guy for the Oregon offense. Also, 4 star Dell City, Oklahoma prospect Terry Wilson. The Ducks have 3 Quarterbacks committed for this class with home town guy Justin Herbert also on board.
Just like Baylor, they have a lot more offensive guys coming in than they do defensive guys.
Oregon State: True freshman Seth Collins started a good portion of 2015 and he was good at times and a typical true freshman at times. The Beavers also tried fellow freshmen Nick Mitchell and Marcus McMaryion with spotty results.
The Beavers struggled to a 2-10 record under first year coach Gary Andersen. The three will battle it out yet again for the starting position in 2016 with Collins probably having a slight edge.
Stanford: It seems like Kevin Hogan has been the Quarterback at Stanford forever, but his time is done. His replacement should be last year’s back up Keller Chryst. He is the son of 49er Geep Chryst and the nephew of Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst. He is the prototype Quarterback at 6-5, 235 and he has the ability, but he has little experience. Ryan Burns is another prospect for the job, but he is a senior and has only thrown 1 pass in his career at Stanford. He is much like Chryst being 6-5, 230 and is a talented athlete.

The really good news for Stanford is that they have the top rated Drop Back passer in the nation in K.J. Costello. Some services have Jacob Eason rated higher, but Costello is a great prospect. He is 6-4, 220 and has a cannon for an arm with the ability to make just about any throw. He’s not a dual threat kind of Quarterback, but he is mobile enough to take off and get a first down.
USC: With the departure of long time starter Cody Kessler, former 5 star recruit Max Browne should finally get his shot. Browne has not played a lot due to the success of Kessler, but he is more of the prototype NFL type guy that USC has produced in past years like Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. About all I have seen of Browne, really, is in the Spring Games and he appears to have the talent to be a big time player. He is 6-5, 220, which is fairly thin, but he has that strong arm and the potential to improve the position long term. Previous 3rd team Quarterback, Jalen Greene, moved to Wide
Receiver last year but could go back to Quarterback if needed.
Sam Darnold redshirted in 2015 and was one of the top Quarterback recruits in the country last year. I believe Darnold is the reason that Ricky Town transferred to Arkansas.
For next season, the Trojans have 4 star recruit Matt Fink committed. ESPN has him as the 3rd best Dual Threat Quarterback in the country behind Shea Patterson and Malik Henry. They also have him as a 4.79 40 yard dash guy, but he can fly. He is a spectacular prospect that has had 80 or 90 yard runs and 4.8 guys just don’t do that. He also appears to have really good to great arm strength. He should be a January enrollee and he could compete with Darnold for backup position.
UCLA: The Bruins should be in great shape at Quarterback for the next two seasons. Josh Rosen was the top true freshman Quarterback in the country and he should be the best sophomore next season. Jerry Neuheisel is UCLA through and through and he should be back in 2016 to back up Rosen. Mike Fafaul should be back as well.
6-5, 195 4 star Quarterback from Broomfield, Colorado native Matt Lynch is committed to the Bruins for this recruiting class. Surprising that he is not afraid of Rosen being there already.
Utah: The Utes top two Quarterbacks last season were seniors Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson. Chase Hansen will probably be the favorite for the job and he played Safety last season. He is a freshman, but not the typical freshman because he’s been on a church mission for a couple of years.
He is older and more experienced than an 18 year old.
Former Washington Husky Quarterback Troy Williams is a commit for the 2016 recruiting class after he played at Santa Monica, California.
Washington: Jake Browning was another talented true freshman Quarterback and he led the Huskies to a 7-6 record in 2015.
K.J. Carta-Samuels was a redshirt freshman last season that played some. Senior Jeff Lundquist was the third Quarterback.
Browning threw for nearly 3,000 yards as a true freshman and got better as the year progressed and he should be a threat in 2016. The Huskies are in good shape at Quarterback.
Washington State: The Cougars were one of the bigger surprises this past season and their defense was better than expected. Luke Falk, at Quarterback, was not a surprise. Falk threw for 4,561 yards and 38 Touchdowns in 2015. Peyton Bender was a freshman last season and the back up to Falk.
Tyler Hilinski is a promising freshman that redshirted in 2015.
The Cougars have a commitment from 3 star Quarterback Quentin Davis from Bellflower, California but he more than likely redshirts in 2016. They also have D’Jimon Jones who is more of a running threat than the standard Washington State throwing machine.
