Jake Fromm State Farm or Georgia Quarterback

Probably everybody that watches sports, or other shows, on television has seen the State Farm Commercials where the husband talks to the insurance company in the middle of the night. It looks suspicious and he is busted by his wife only to find out that he’s really just talking to Jake from State Farm.

I realize that it’s corny, but I couldn’t resist.

Last year, the Georgia Bulldogs signed the top Quarterback recruit in the country in Jacob Eason, the son of former NFL Quarterback Tony Eason.

Senior Greyson Lambert started the first Bulldog game against North Carolina, but it didn’t take Georgia coach Kirby Smart to get Eason into the game. Neither Smart, or Eason, ever looked back as Eason took over the starting job after that. Some Georgia fans were not happy with Eason’s performance. New coach, new system, new Quarterback and they expected to win the national championship? Maybe they should just set goals to win the SEC East, and give a true freshman a little more time.

The 6-5, 235 5 star recruit from Lake Stevens, Washington played well at times in 2016. Other times, he played like a true freshman. His talent is hard to not see. He threw for 2,430 yards and 16 Touchdowns while leading the Bulldogs to an 8-5 record which is obviously not outstanding. However, under the circumstances it was not a bad season for the Bulldogs and Eason was apparently the future at Quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs.

But, maybe not.

The 8-5 record may not have proven much about new head coach Kirby Smart, but his first real Georgia’s Top 5 Recruiting Class

recruiting class may mean that he is here to stay.

Guys like Isaiah Wilson, DeAngelo Gibbs, Richard LeCounte III and Robert Beal may be the big names in the class with their 5 star rankings. But, please don’t overlook 7th ranked Drop Back passer Jake Fromm.

Warner Robins, Georgia is known for producing athletes, and Jake Fromm may be the latest.

You have to give him props for joining the Georgia Bulldogs with Jacob Eason already there. That took some courage, but also demonstrates that Fromm is not scared of competition. With so many Quarterbacks losing out on starting jobs transferring out these days, it’s refreshing to see a guy man up and go to the school he loves.

Judging from what we saw at the Georgia Spring game, it’s Jacob Eason that might need to worry.

The 6-3, 225 Fromm is not your typical freshman Quarterback. Size wise, he reminds very much of South Carolina’s Jake Bentley, must be something about that Jake name.

But, more than just size, there’s just something about Jake Fromm. As a high school football player, Fromm started four years. He only threw for just over 1,000 yards as a high school freshman. The following season was the beginning of the Jake Fromm show. His passing total went up to over 3,600 yards with 31 Touchdown passes. His best season was as a junior in 2015 when he threw for 4,099 yards and 36 Touchdowns. His high school totals were impressive when he totaled 12,745 yards and 116 Touchdowns.

Fromm is not a dual threat Quarterback, but he did run for 351 yards as a senior and 4 Touchdowns.

It’s not about his stats, or his size, either. There’s something else. He’s just cool under pressure. As an early enrollee, Fromm was in with the veterans and acting like he belonged. He does belong, he’s a big time Quarterback.

Recruiting Jake Fromm was a necessity for the Bulldog coaches because they now have a total of 2 scholarship Quarterbacks on the roster The only other Quarterback available is walk-on Sam Vaughn.

Eason had better be Superman in 2017, because Jake Fromm looks like a guy that has the capabilities to make a run at the starting position. Should Eason struggle, expect Georgia fans to scream loudly for Jake Fromm and with good reason.

Jake Fromm is a young and talented Quarterback that people need to keep an eye on in the future. I don’t know that he will beat out Jacob Eason this season as a true freshman, but he will be pushing and he might have a great shot at starting in 2018.
