One thing about football is the tape measure lies. Cameron Erving is listed anywhere from 6-4 to 6-6 and from 320 pounds to 340 pounds. It’s funny, but 2 different sites have him at sort of completely different body types. One has him listed at 6-4, 340 while another has him measuring in at 6-6, 320 suggesting almost 2 completely different types of players. 6-4, 340 suggests more of an Offensive Guard prospect while 6-6, 320 looks more like the prototype Offensive Tackle.
Since he is a returning All American and All ACC Offensive Tackle for the defending national champions and I am leaning more towards believing 6-6, 320.
No matter which size you believe and which is accurate, he is a big, big man and a really good football player and will be a three year starter at Left Tackle for the Florida State Seminoles.
The real truth of the tape measure comes out at the NFL combine. You can’t trust high school coaches, those guys don’t know how to work a tape measure. You can’t even trust a college football program. But in the end, the NFL gets it right and settles it once and for all.
Cameron Erving was recruited by Florida State out of Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia where he played for the very controversial high school coach, Rush Propst. Erving was brought in as a Defensive Tackle and was only rated as a 3
star prospect.

He redshirted his true freshman year because of a back injury in 2010. In 2011, Erving was a back up Defensive Tackle for the Seminoles and played behind starter, Everett Dawkins who is currently playing for the New York Giants. Erving had 20 tackles with 2.5 being for losses and he also had 1 QB sack.
In the Spring of 2012, Cameron Erving was moved to Left Tackle and he took over the starting job and he has been a star from day one.
In 2013, Erving was one of the top players in America and was named to most AA teams at least on the first or second team and was All ACC. Erving dominated All American Clemson Defensive End, Vic Beasley and did better than anyone else against Pittsburgh’s’ Aaron Donald. Donald was the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and pretty much dominated everyone he faced except for Erving.
In an almost surprising move, Erving announced he would return to Tallahassee for his senior season.
Pro Scouts and other experts have Erving rated anywhere from the #1 Offensive Tackle to the #3 Tackle in the country. Returning for his senior year should pay off handsomely for Cameron Erving and he should be a top 10 pick in 2015. Either Erving or Stanford’s Andrus Peat should be the top tackle taken, but even the runner up should be a top pick.
Erving is back to protect Jameis Winston’s backside one more year and he should be in contention for not only All American and All ACC, but also for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi which are given to the Nation’s best interior linemen.
