Eric Dungey Syracuse Quarterback

When Dino Babers took the Syracuse job, he inherited a program that was in shambles. He also obtained a sophomore Quarterback from Oregon that was supposed to be the future of the program. Lightly recruited, 3 star Quarterback Eric Dungey was clearly an athlete. Dungey was listed as 6-4, 180 with a good arm and he had excellent running ability.

But, in 8 games as a true freshman, he only threw for slightly less than 1,300 yards. But, to illustrate his athletic ability, he ran for 351 yards including sacks and his Offensive Line was not great as the

Orange slumped to 4-8.

Babers did wonders at Bowling Green and especially with his offense. His last team with the Falcons in 2015, they posted a 10-4 record and their Quarterback Matt Johnson threw for almost 5,000 yards. They were a fun team to watch and senior Running Back Travis Greene ran for 1,299 yards and 15 Touchdowns.

He will bring that kind of Offensive success to Syracuse.

In his first game under brand new head coach Dino Babers, Eric Dungey looked fantastic. Granted they were playing Colgate, but he still completed an amazing 34 out of 40 passes for 355 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Back up and walk-on Zach Mahoney completed 6 out of 6 for 82 yards.

True freshman Running Back Moe Neal ran for 68 yards on 9 carries and had his first college Touchdown.

This offense is going to be great and I wouldn’t be surprised if the team is great really soon. But, next Saturday they play the Louisville Cardinals and their outstanding Quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Cardinals won last week, 70-14.

The Orange has a tough schedule. After this weekend against Louisville, they have games against Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Clemson, North Carolina State, Florida State and Pittsburghervin phillis. That’s pretty tough going for a new coach trying to establish a new program.

But, Dino Babers building block is probably sophomore Quarterback Eric Dungey

.

Dungey has beefed up to about 205 or 210 and he still has some mobility. He didn’t have a great day running the ball, but he still was about to run for 25 yards. Playing in Dino Baber’s system, he probably won’t be asked to run a lot, but it will be helpful if his pocket collapses and he needs to pick up some yardage.

Also helping Dungey possibly taking the Orange to the next level will be Wide Receivers Amba Etta-Tawo who is a senior and he’s a physical receiver at 6-2, 205. In his first game of the season, Etta-Tawo hauled in 12 receptions for 210 yards and a Touchdown. Not a bad first outing, I would say.

Wide Receiver Ervin Phillips also had a busy day in game one with 14 receptions for 87 yards and a Touchdown. Steve Ishmael is another Wide Receiver for the Orange. He caught 6 passes last week, but he should be a major weapon for Dungey in future games.

Syracuse was always known for great Running Backs with Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Jim Nance, Floyd Little and Larry Csonka. But, that dried up decades ago. If Syracuse gets it going again under Dino Babers, they may be known as a Quarterback, or a Wide Receiver producing school.

Tune into ACC football this Fall and catch Syracuse in action. Eric Dungey and pals should be fun to watch.
