2017 Freshmen AA Predictions: How’d I Do?

These are the guys I picked as the preseason freshmen All Americans. I used both true freshman and redshirt freshmen. It was not my best work, but I got some of them right.

QB: Herndon Hooker – Virginia Tech: The outstanding play of redshirt freshman Josh Jackson made the decision for Hooker to redshirt.

QB: N’Kosi Perry – Miami: Perry was thought of as the best option for the Hurricanes, but Malik Rosier stepped up and took over the job. Perry is now third team quarterback and apparently is redshirting.

QB: Tua Tagovailoa – Alabama: The Crimson Tide only have sophomore Jalen Hurts and Tagovailoa, plus true freshman Mac Jones. So, Tagovailoa had to play as a freshman as the back up. He’s looked really good when given the opportunity to play.

RB: Cam Akers – Florida State: Akers leads the Seminoles in rushing with 380 yards on 71

carries. Akers was the top running back recruit in the country and has lived up to the billing in spite of a bad year for Florida State.

RB: Cordarrian Richardson – UCF: The Knights of Central Florida are unbeaten and Richardson has 118 yards rushing on 26 carries and a touchdown. The 6-0, 250 Richardson is a beast that should have a bright future.

RB: Najee Harris – Alabama: The Crimson Tide have the best running backs in the country and it’s not even really that close outside of Athens, Georgia. Because of that depth, Harris has only run for 232 yards and a touchdown.

RB: Baggio Ali-Walsh – California: The Greatest of all Time’s grandson has great speed and Cal had little depth at running back. But, apparently Ali-Walsh is redshirting.

WR: Jeff Thomas – Miami: The Hurricanes are deep at receiver, so a talent like Thomas has gotten playing time but not as much as expected. So far, Thomas has 6 catches for 87 yards.

WR: Jerry Jeudy – Alabama: At Alabama, there is Calvin Ridley and then there are the other receivers. Jeudy is special and receives a lot of playing time, but the ball is thrown mostly to Ridley.

TE: Brock Wright – Notre Dame: The Irish supposedly don’t redshirt players, but Wright is not playing yet. With two seniors at Tight End, he should rise to the top next season. I was just a season early with Brock Wright.

OT: Isaiah Wilson – Georgia: There is a true freshman starting at right tackle for the Bulldogs, but it’s Andrew Thomas, not Isaiah Wilson.

OT: Foster Sarell – Stanford: I picked the wrong guy again as Walker Little the offensive tackle from Texas is starting at left tackle. Sarell will join Little as soon as next season.

OT: Josh Ball – Florida State: Starting at left tackle for a struggling offensive line. Ball is huge and will be a good one with time.

OG: Navaughn Donaldson – Miami: He starts at right guard for the Canes and he has played really well.

OG: Josh Myers – Ohio State: Myers was an early enrollee and with the Buckeyes’ issues in the

OG: Mike Miranda – Penn State: The Nittany Lions have a young offensive line with 3 sophomores and a freshman starting. But, the freshman is not Miranda. He is a back up at guard and should be a good one down the road.

OC: Baveon Johnson – Florida State: Was expected to contend for a starting job, but maybe next season.

DE: Joshua Kaindoh – Florida State: The 6-7, 255 defensive end is a star of the future and has played in every game. The Seminoles are deep along the defensive front.

DE: DJ Johnson – Miami: This kid should be really good down the road, but Miami’s defensive line is just deep and talented. Johnson has played in every game, but one.

DT: Marion Tuipulotu – USC: Tuipulotu hasn’t played as much as expected, but he provides quality depth and a star for the future.

DT: Marvin Wilson – Florida State: This kid is a future star, but there’s not a lot of playing time available currently with all of the depth.

DT: Aubrey Solomon – Michigan: Highly coveted recruit from the middle of SEC country. Solomon has played in every game and he shows all of the potential and talent that we knew he hd.

LB: Jaelen Phillips – UCLA: Sensational young freshman defensive end/outside linebacker. Phillips is the starter, but he splits time with other players. Definitely a guy to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

LB: Addison Gumbs – Oklahoma: Gumbs has played a little, but at defensive end. So far this year, he has 5 tackles and 1 for loss. He is a guy that will continue to improve.

LB: Dylan Moses – Alabama: Moses was an all world recruit and at one time considered the top recruit in the nation. He committed to LSU before switching to Alabama. With the talent that

Bama has on the field, it’s been hard to find much valuable playing time for the freshman linebacker. But, Moses is definitely a top player.

CB: Lamont Wade – Penn State: Wade is not a starter, but he plays a lot and he looks like he will be really good over the next couple of years.

CB: Elijah Hicks – California: Starts at cornerback for the Golden Bears and even though they are only 4-4 on the season their defense is much improved and they look better.

CB: Jeffrey Okudah – Ohio State: The top safety recruit in the nation was moved to cornerback when he arrived in Columbus. Okudah plays behind Denzel Ward who is a junior and will leave for the NFL after this season more than likely and Okudah will be the starter and another future star.

DB: Jaylin Dickerson – South Carolina: Missed this one, Dickerson is apparently redshirting. He was a star in the Gamecock spring game.

DB: Bubba Bolden – USC: The Trojans fought a huge battle with Ohio State for Bolden and the 6-3, 190 star in waiting is backing up a senior. He’s played some and looks like he will be a good one.
