Torrance Gibson Ohio State: Will He Live up to the Hype?

Nick Bosa might be the most anticipated newcomer for the Ohio State Buckeye fans. But, they have so much young talent coming up and they do not want to forget about a redshirt freshman named Torrance Gibson.

Bosa. like his older brother, should come in and play right away, but Gibson was redshirted last season and is eager to get his career moving forward.

Like Nick Bosa, Torrance Gibson was a 5 star recruit when he signed with the Buckeyes. But, that was in the 2015 recruiting class and he was joined by Linebacker Justin Hilliard as 5 star recruits. Gibson was a 6-4, 200 Quarterback from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. Over his high school career, Gibson threw for 4,094 yards and 44 Touchdowns and he ran for 2,275 yards and 28 Touchdowns.

One wouldn’t think that Gibson would need to redshirt as a true freshman, but there were some

issues. He did injure his ankle slightly, but his biggest problem was school. He needed to spend more time on his studies and to adjust to the college game.

He might still play Quarterback at times, but most of his playing time will come at Wide Receiver.

Gibson has been credited with a 4.38 40 which is obviously outstanding. That time is more than likely not electronic, but Gibson can still fly.

In Ohio State’s Spring Game, Gibson showed flashes of brilliance from his new Wide Receiver position. He scored a couple of Touchdowns, with one on an End Around play.

He’s not quite there yet, but Gibson has the physicality and talent to be the next big thing at Ohio State.

The opportunity will be there for Gibson for 2016 with the loss of so many Wide Receivers over the past couple of seasons.

Nobody was hit harder than Ohio State with players leaving early for the NFL. The defensive backfield lost 3 out of 4 starters, and the Wide Receivers lost everyone.

Michael Thomas caught 56 passes last season and declared for the NFL and was  picked by the New Orleans Saints in the 2nd round.

Jalin Marshall caught 36 passes and left after his redshirt sophomore season and went undrafted. He did sign a free agent contract with the New York Jets. Converted Quarterback, Braxton Miller, was not used enough by the Buckeyes as a senior last year. He only caught 26 passes but was drafted in

the 3rd round by the Houston Texans and Texan fans are excited about what they have seen of him.

Noah Brown, Johnnie Dixon, Parris Campbell, Austin Mack and Torrance Gibson figure to be the next group of Wide Receivers in Columbus. But, between the 5 of those guys, they have 2 receptions as college football players.

But, talent is talent and the Buckeyes have reached the point under Urban Meyer where they simply reload.

All of these receivers are big, fast and talented.

If the Buckeyes are going to make it back to the Playoffs and win another national title, they need guys like Torrance Gibson to live up to his potential.
