Scott Frost UCF Coach of the Year?

A few short years ago the University of Central Florida was one of the better teams in all of college football with top Quarterback Blake Bortles leading the way. During the 2013 season, the Central Florida Knights finished 12-1 with their only loss coming in a close one against 11-2 South Carolina.

The 6-5, 240 Bortles was picked by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 3rd pick of the 2014 NFL Draft and the descent of the Central Florida program began.

Their first season after Bortles, they still had enough defense and talent to finish up 9-4 in 2014.

But, the 2015 season was a total disaster for the Knights and they finished the season with an

unbelievable 0-12 record. Long time coach, George O’Leary quit part way through.

The Knights went out to Oregon and hired the Ducks Offensive Coordinator Scott Frost. If you read this blog, you may possibly remember that I felt that the Nebraska Cornhuskers should have hired Scott Frost instead of the former head coach of the Oregon State Beavers, Mike Riley. I have nothing against Riley, and I even think he’s a great guy. But, he was 62 years old when hired and he was on the verge of probably being released by the Oregon State Beavers as their head coach.

Scott Frost, I believed then and I do even more now, has much more upside.

If you have been watching football for a long time as I have, you would probably remember Scott Frost as the Quarterback at Nebraska replacing Tommie Frazier after he graduated.

The Cornhuskers posted a 60-3 record from 1993 through 1997 with national championships in 1994, 1995 and in 1997.

Frost was a Nebraska native that originally signed with Stanford before transferring to Nebraska and sitting out a season and taking over for the mega talented Frazier and leading the Huskers to another title.

Scott Frost is 41 and with a good head on his shoulders and with plenty of toughness.

The change was instantaneous at Central Florida under Scott Frost.

It was just South Carolina State, but the Knights wiped them out with a convincing 38-0 win.

Their second game came in Ann Arbor against the highly ranked Michigan Wolverines. Although the Wolverines won, 51-14, the Knights came ready to play and the game was a lot closer than the score. Frost was upset after the game and made a few comments like they outhit the Wolverines, which most didn’t have much of a problem with. They came out and played hard.

The Knights lost to Maryland in their third game, but it was a close game.

After starting off at 1-2, Central Florida got it going with big wins over Florida International and East Carolina. The Knights were then 3-2 before taking on Temple and losing by 1 point.

They beat Connecticut and lost a close one to ranked Houston to even their record to 4-4. The Knights dominated  Tulane and Cincinnati before falling to Tulsa.

With one game left, the Central Florida Knights are 6-5 with only South Florida remaining on their schedule.

The only problem with South Florida is that they are 9-2 on the season and they will be an extreme challenge for Scott Frost and his UCF Knights.

Even if the Knights lose this game, Scott Frost has already proven he’s an up and coming star in the coaching ranks. He also represents hope for the Nebraska Cornhusker’s future because there’s little doubt that he will be their next football coach.
