Leonard Fournette vs Corey Clement

Leonard Fournette was the highest rated recruit in the 2014 class and in-state LSU won the sweepstakes to sign the nation’s best. Everybody wanted him badly, and everyone had him winning the Heisman Trophy as a true freshman. To start the 2014 season, the Wisconsin Badgers traveled to Houston, Texas to play the LSU Tigers.

In a tough battle, LSU was fortunate to come from behind and beat Wisconsin, 28-24. The Badgers held Fournette to 18 yards rushing in his first college game and all silly talk of a true freshman

winning the Heisman were over.

Fournette recovered to run for 1,034 yards during his freshman season. The following season, as a sophomore, Fournette ran for 1,953 yards but he was again knocked out of Heisman consideration by a 31 yards rushing disappointment against national champion Alabama.

As the 2016 season approached, Leonard Fournette talk heated up again maybe like never before.

Wisconsin, and especially their top Running Back Corey Clement were sick and tired of hearing about it. Nobody gave Wisconsin a chance and nobody talked about Corey Clement. It was just Fournette, Fournette, Fournette.

That didn’t sit well with Corey Clement.

After the 2014 regular season, the Badgers earned a bowl berth against the Auburn Tigers. The Tigers and their SEC rushing leader Running Back Cameron Artis-Payne were disrespectful to the Wisconsin Badgers and their Running Back Melvin Gordon. Artis-Payne, who is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, said that Gordon could do what he did against some of the teams he played against and he ran wild against weaklings.

Melvin Gordon and his heir apparent, Cory Clement ran wild over the Auburn defense. Gordon ran for 251 yards and Clements ran for 105 yards. On the season, Gordon ran for 2,587 yards and

Clement ran for 949 yards.

LSU was a different matter, they actually played defense coming in. Plus, in the off season, the Tigers stole the Wisconsin Badgers’ Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda.

The LSU Tigers were ranked 3rd in the nation coming in and the Wisconsin Badgers were unranked.

While Leonard Fournette was running for nearly 2,000 yards, Corey Clement was suffering through an injury filled season. He only played in 4 games and ran for 221 Yards.

Corey Clement and Wisconsin had something to prove to the doubters, which were many.

The 2016 season started off for LSU and Wisconsin in the first ever major college football game played at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field.

It was Wisconsin vs LSU.

It was the SEC vs the Big 10.

It was 6-1, 235 Leonard Fournette vs 5-11, 227 Corey Clement.

The Wisconsin Badgers came to play on this day and almost completely shut down the Tigers and Fournette in the first half. Fournette had about 30 yards rushing in the first half as the Badgers built

up a 13-0 lead.

LSU’s number 18, Tre’Davious White, picked off a pass in the 3rd quarter and returned it 21 yards for a Touchdown getting the Tigers right back in the game.

Fournette broke off some good runs in the second half and he finished up with 138 yards on 23 carries.

After the defense got them back into the game, Tiger Quarterback Brandon Harris hit Wide Receiver Travin Dural for a Touchdown to give the LSU Tigers a 14-13 lead.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage, Corey Clement was held to 86 yards rushing and a Touchdown.

The Badgers played their hearts out and kicked a Field Goal to eventually win the game 16-14.
