Kiante Enis Nephew of Curtis Enis

I blogged during football season about sensational Penn State freshman Running Back Saquon Barkley and how he compared to some of the Nittany Lions Running Backs of old. If interested, you can read about Barkley here: Barkley

One of those great old Penn State Running Backs was Curtis Enis.

Curtis Enis was a 3 time All State Linebacker in high school at Misissinawa Valley High School in Union City, Ohio.

Knowing that, I am surprised that Joe Paterno used Enis as a Running Back since he generally used his best players on defense.

Plus, Enis was a big guy at around 6-0, 240.

In 1996, Curtis Enis exploded onto the national scene when he rushed for 1,210 yards and 13 Touchdowns for an 11-2 Penn State team.

The following season was his junior season and the Nittany Lions compiled a 9-3 record and Enis rushed for 1,363 yards and 19 Touchdowns. Enis tied with Ricky Williams of Texas to finish 5th in the Heisman race in 1997. Enis was maybe the definition of a power runner running with great strength and speed.

Enis declared for the NFL Draft after the 1997 season and he was picked with the 5th selection of the 1st round by the Chicago Bears.

Curtis Enis was a bust in the NFL, but part of that was due to a knee injury and several other things that happened to him.

He finished his NFL career in 3 seasons after rushing for a total of 1,497 yards and 4 Touchdowns.

In the 2015 season, Kiante Enis ran for 2,393 yards and 35 Touchdowns at Indiana’s Winchester Community High School. In early September Enis ran for 392 yards in a single game. Over his high school career, Kiante Enis ran for 6,991 yards and 99 Touchdowns.

That was the question facing the sport Monday as track promoters and NASCAR executives scrutinized their race procedures and emergency warning systems after a fan. The nephew of one time Heisman candidate Curtis Enis was highly recruited even if he was only

granted a 3 star and rated as the nation’s 40th best Athlete by ESPN.

The 3 star wasn’t enough to keep Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines from offering and he committed to them last summer.

Some time in January, Kiante Enis decommitted from Michigan and opened up the recruiting process.

Enis wants to play Running Back and the Michigan coaches wouldn’t guarantee he would carry the ball and they continued recruiting backs.

With two weeks left before signing day, the suitors didn’t have much time to recruit Kiante Enis. He decided on Indiana and part of the reason was the distance to his home in Winchester and his grandparents being able to watch him play.

Enis is supposed to be able to run the 40 in a smoking 4.35 which I highly doubt.  There is also some question about the competition.

When half of your games are played in a tiny stadium between cornfields, there is definitely a problem with the competition.

Still, Enis does have some speed and if he stays at Running Back the Hoosiers definitely will get the most out of him. Indiana was one of a very few select schools with 2 Running Backs rushing for over 1,000 yards each. Jordan Howard ran for over 1,200 yards in spite of missing playing time due to injuries. Divine Redding also ran for over 1,000 yards. Howard has declared for the NFL, but Redding is back for his junior season.

Enis would have to beat out sophomore Nick Majette for playing time.

If Kiante Enis doesn’t play Running Back, look for him at Wide Receiver or Defensive Back. He’s more than likely too talented of an athlete to not contribute somewhere and he is, after all, the nephew of Curtis Enis.
