Duke Williams Another One Bites the Dust

In the Spring of 2014, I got my first glimpse of Duke Williams at Wide Receiver for Auburn in their Spring Game.

It was football love at first sight.

This guy had it all. Sure, he wasn’t 6 foot 6 inches like Dorial Green-Beckham, but Duke Williams was 6-2, 225. He had that NFL size, but he also had the speed and the athletic ability that allowed him to come up with spectacular play after spectacular play.

Auburn does throw the ball, but they are a running team by design that happens to throw it around a little as well. Auburn Quarterback Nick Marshall had a super strong arm, but he was sometimes all over the place with his accuracy. What made Nick so great was his athletic ability. He could burn you through the air, or on the ground.

The guy was just a scary good athlete at the Quarterback position. At Wide Receiver in the 2014 season, Marshall had Super Sammie Coates and Duke Williams. Sammie Coates was much along the same lines as Duke Williams. Coates was 6-2, 212 and ran the 40 yard dash in the 4.4 range. In fact, Coates ran a 4.43 at the NFL Combine. Coates was a physical freak that brought great speed and great strength and explosiveness to the position. He had a knack for the big play.

Sammie Coates, by all accounts, is a top notch kind of a guy. He is apparently great both on and off of the football field.

Duke Williams played High School football at Laplace, Louisiana and then at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He was the highest rated Junior College Wide Receiver in the country when he signed with Auburn.

As a junior and his first season at Auburn, Duke Williams led all Tiger receivers with 45 catches for 730 yards and 5 Touchdowns.

He had the look of all SEC and an All American, along with sidekick Sammie Coates.

Coates declared for the NFL after the 2014 season, but Duke Williams decided to come back and maybe prove himself.

During the 2015 season, Duke Williams had 14 catches and 1 Touchdown.

Williams had some problems in the off season and was demoted by Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn. Williams had to work his way back into the starting lineup and he did.

But, it was just announced that Duke Williams has been kicked off of the team. .

Reading through arrest reports from team after team, I always wonder what a guy must do to get completely kicked off of a team.

Of course, our friends in the NFL do not care what these guys do and will sign them and that’s all most of these guys are really looking for, anyway.

Dorial Green-Beckham is now with the Tennessee Titans and just got arrested again.

Lael Collins starts at Offensive Guard for the Dallas Cowboys. These NFL teams clearly don’t care what these guys do off the field.

Duke Williams will probably be yet another one.

But, in the meantime, Duke Williams has managed somehow to get himself kicked off an SEC football team which requires some doing.

Watch out citizens of NFL team locations, another criminal will soon be living among you.
