To Those Bashing Jake Coker of Alabama

Please, if you have been bashing Jake Coker and saying that he can’t play and that Alabama doesn’t have a Quarterback, keep your day job.

Scouting football, or discussing football on ESPN may not be the right job for you.

People have been saying all season that Bama was not good and that they didn’t have a Quarterback.

At least two people have been in disagreement with these bashing folks all season long and that is myself and Jake Coker.

On Thursday Night December 31st, in the Cotton Bowl, Jake Coker connected on 25 passes out of 30 attempts. Bad Quarterbacks don’t hit 25 out of 30 passes in the front yard with their brothers. They don’t hit 25 out of 30 throwing the ball to one of the water boys in practice.

That’s good Quarterbacking.

His 25 completions totaled 286 yards and 2 Touchdowns while leading his Crimson Tide to a 38 to 0 win over Big 10 Champion Michigan State.

Now, the Crimson Tide of Alabama is one game away from winning yet another national championship.

Other than great defense, Jake Coker is a large reason why they are in this position.

Coker grew up in Mobile, Alabama. He not only played Quarterback in football, but was an All City basketball player at St Paul’s Episcopal School.

Even though he was listed as 6-4, 200, Coker was only a 3 star recruit and he committed to Florida State in 2010. He signed with them in 2011 and was a back up to future 1st round draft pick. EJ Manuel.

Then, Florida State signed Jameis Winston in the 2012 recruiting class. In the Spring of 2013, Coker and Winston battled for the starting job with Winston winning, obviously.

They say the competition was very close, but I have not been able to confirm that since Jimbo Fisher does not return my calls.

Florida State had a season to never forget in 2013 winning the very last BCS title.

After that, Jake Coker decided to look for another opportunity for playing time. He graduated from Florida State in May of 2014 and left for Alabama.

Coker was unable to participate in Spring Practice in 2014 at Alabama because of school at Florida State so he was way behind Blake Sims when he arrived in Tuscaloosa.

Sims was a senior and had been in the system for longer. Still, the job was up for grabs and even though Sims looked to be struggling with it in the Spring, he came on strong in the 2014 season.

Sims wound up have a sensational season in 2014 throwing for 3,487 yards and 28 Touchdowns.

Jake Coker had to settle for watching from the sidelines yet again.

In 2015, the Alabama coaching staff had a hard time deciding between Coker and sophomore Cooper Bateman. But, after the Tide’s only loss of the season coming at the hands of the Ole Miss Rebels, they finally decided to go with Coker full time.

That decision could pay off with a national championship in a few days.

My question is, what does Jake Coker have to do to win the admiration of Joe Fan? He made several plays with his feet against Texas A%M that were enjoyable to watch and he took some blows and got back up to take some more.

Against Auburn, he made a highlight reel play when he scrambled avoiding pass rushers and then made a really nice throw into the End Zone for a Bama Touchdown.

Was nobody else watching these games?

Jake Coker is not a first round draft pick, but he has been a good Quarterback for probable national champions Alabama in the 2015 season.

By all accounts he’s a good guy, that has his degree already and he plays with a lot of heart. On Thursday Night while stomping Michigan State, he not only made some plays with his feet he also had quite a few passes right on the money. Those on target throws included two long passes to true freshman Calvin Ridley that blew the game open.

Regardless of what the media  said about Alabama, they are a good team and they have themselves a Quarterback. Sorry haters.
