Schedule and Predictions October 29th

Thursday October 27th

Virginia Tech 5-2 at Pittsburgh 5-2: Two of my favorite coaches and programs mix it up in Pittsburgh. Both have good offenses, but Va Tech has the better defense and should win by 10.

Cal 4-3 at USC 4-3: After starting off at 1-3, the Trojans have won 3 straight. USC is just the better team right now and wins this one by probably a couple of scores.

Friday October 28th

Navy 5-1 at South Florida 6-2:  These are two pretty decent teams, but the Navy offense should give them an advantage and they should win in a close one.

Saturday October 29th

UCF 4-3 at Houston 6-2: Scott Frost has turned around Central Florida in little time and they are playing well. Houston, on the hand, is not playing well. Rumors have it that Tom Herman is a done deal at Texas and his players have quit on him just as he will quit on them. Houston probably is favored, but UCF

will play hard and upset them.

Duke 3-4 at Georgia Tech 4-3:  The Yellowjackets take it at home in a slug fest.

Louisville 6-1 at Virginia 2-5: Lamar Jackson and pals get it going and win big. I am guessing by at least 35 points. Jackson’s amazing season will continue and he should have a great game.

Kentucky 4-3 at Missouri 2-5: Mark Stoops might get himself off the hot seat if he can improve his record to 5-3 and a win here. Thank goodness for Stoops, Missouri is just bad right now. The Tigers are so bad that the Wildcats could possibly win by 14 or more.

West Virginia 6-0 at Oklahoma State 5-2: The Mountaineers are tough this year and Oklahoma State is probably not as good as their record. I want to pick an upset, but I am going with West Virginia on the road.

Minnesota 5-2 at Illinois 2-5: I love Lovie Smith, but he is going to need a little time at Illinois to recruit his own players. Tracy Claeys is in his first year at Minnesota, but he was interim last year and on the staff before that. He is building a decent program with the Gophers and they should win this game by about 10.

Michigan 7-0 at Michigan State 2-5: Wow, this was a game I was looking forward to when the season started and now the Spartans have destructed. Their Offensive Line is terrible and the Wolverines are more than stout on the Defensive Line. Will Michigan State’s defense be able to keep it close? Maybe for a while, but the Wolverines are anxious to get some revenge and they will have it. You never really

know in a rivalry game, but Michigan just might be too good right now.

Penn State 5-2 at Purdue 3-4: The Boilermakers fired their coach and they looked better last week against Nebraska and that was in Lincoln. At home, could they beat a Penn State team that is still high from last week? I love Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley of Penn State and I believe they will have great days as confidence rides high. Nittany Lions win and move to 6-2 on the season.

Boston College 3-4 at North Carolina State 4-3: The Wolfpack got hammered by Louisville last week and they are really not a bad team at all. They were probably in a funk after losing to Clemson when they should have won. North Carolina State bounces back and batters Boston College.

Florida 5-1 at Georgia 4-3: You can never tell about a rivalry game and this is a big rivalry. The Bulldogs are just not very good right now and the Gators will take advantage of that and hand it to them. I think Florida wins by at least 10.

Miami 4-3 at Notre Dame 2-5: As much as we all would like this game to be like the 1988 game, Notre Dame is just really bad this season. Miami, under Mark Richt is on it’s way back up, but not so sure about Notre Dame. The Hurricanes should win pretty easily.

Washington 7-0 at Utah 7-1: This game features 2 of the West’s better teams. Washington is much better, but the Utes will be tough on their home field. Still, the Huskies remain undefeated and they could do it easily.

Maryland 5-2 at Indiana 3-4: DJ Durkin has done wonders at Maryland in a short time. The former

Michigan Defensive Coordinator came in and took over a bad team an they are a decent team already. Indiana is also not a bad team and has been competitive in all of their losses. Indiana did not play well against Northwestern, but they should be back to normal this week and beat the Terrapins at home.

Texas Tech 3-4 at TCU 4-3: Only Oregon has a worse defense than Texas Tech and TCU must be licking it’s chops. Expect another shootout here with the Frogs beating the Red Raiders with no sign of a defense on the horizon.

Northwestern 4-3 at Ohio State 6-1: The Buckeyes tasted their first defeat last week and they didn’t like it much. Expect an inspired Buckeye team to host an improved Northwestern team and teach them a lesson they won’t soon forget. Last year, Ohio State lost to Michigan State and then they started playing and it could be the same this year. Buckeyes should win big.

Arizona State 5-3 at Oregon 2-5: The Ducks are in a free fall and fans are calling for heads. The Sun Devils started off 4-0 and are 1-3 since then. Even though Arizona State is not good, the Ducks are just helpless and it should be a Sun Devil win. I wonder if Mark Helfrich survives the season.

Nebraska 7-0 at Wisconsin 5-2: Nebraska has been living the good life in recent weeks just escaping against horrible teams like Oregon. Wisconsin is a different breed of animal and especially at Camp Randall. Badgers end the Huskers perfect record but Wisconsin is not a high scoring team so it won’t be a blowout.

Auburn 5-2 at Ole Miss 3-4: Nobody is playing much better than Auburn right now. The advantage that Ole Miss will have is the game is in Oxford, but the Tigers are still going to win and it might be big. Ole Miss has some talent, but something is off kilter.

Tennessee 5-2 at South Carolina 3-4: The Vols still have a shot at the really bad SEC East title. South Carolina is just really bad barely surviving a scare from hapless UMass. The Gamecocks keep it respectable at home but the Vols still win by at least 14.

Clemson 7-0 at Florida State 5-2: This was another game that I was looking forward to since last

season and then the Seminoles lost 2 games and one of them was a thrashing at the hands of Louisville. However, even though the game lost a little something and won’t be #2 vs #3 now, it still has huge meaning for both teams. Florida State can still get a great bowl bid with a win and there’s that little thing called bragging rights. Clemson has to win to remain in first place in the ACC Atlantic and keep in the running for another playoff spot.

This should be a great game with Clemson winning by about 3. I can’t wait.

Washington State 5-2 at Oregon State 2-5: Mike Leach and Washington State like to start off with a loss to a FCS team before they get rolling, or that’s the way they’ve played it the past 2 seasons. After losing to Eastern Washington and Boise State, the Cougars have won 5 straight games. They shouldn’t have much of a problem with the Beavers of Oregon State especially with talented power back Ryan Nall still out.

Stanford 4-3 at Arizona 2-5: The Cardinal looked slightly sluggish starting the season, but then the wheels came off and they have lost 3 out of the last 4 games. Arizona is just horrible this year. The Wildcats defense is so bad that Christian McCaffrey has a good shot at really getting back on track. The Cardinal should win by about 14 points.
