First Saturday August 30th

This is the day that all college football fans have been dreaming about for months. Since the season ended with Florida State’s big comeback victory over Auburn, football fans have been in withdrawals.

But, now the season is officially upon us. Next thing we know, the days will be cooler and the leaves will change colors and the Fall will officially be here.

I get excited this time of year and by far the Fall is my favorite season. I suppose you can say it’s my Christmas.

Defending National Champion Florida State travels to Arlington, Texas and begins the defense of their title against Oklahoma State. Jameis Winston also begins the defense of his Heisman Trophy. Florida State is everybody’s #1 this season.

The Seminoles return 4 out of 5 Offensive Linemen, probably the nation’s top Tight End, a quality Running Back and some good WR’s. Defense lost top Defensive Tackle Timmy Jernigan which is a huge loss but they have plenty of talent remaining. They have scary talent remaining.

Oklahoma State should be a little down from last year which gives them almost no chance at all in this game. Interesting thing about this game in my eyes is not only seeing FSU play but Garden City Community College transfer for Oklahoma State, Tyreek Hill. Hill leaves a contrail behind when he runs, but there’s not going to be a lot of running room for him against a stout and talented Seminole defense. OSU Head Coach, Mike Gundy, always puts a good team on the field and he actually has one of the better programs in Texas with all of the Lone Star State players on his roster.

Seminoles win in a blowout.

When West Virginia had Geno Smith at QB, they may have actually given the #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide more of a battle. As it is, the Tide is going to roll.

What should be interesting will be who Bama plays at QB. Will it be Jacob Coker, or Blake Sims? Or, will it be both?

We know West Virginia will start Clint Trickett, but at 6-2, 175 the question may be if he can make it through the game without being broken.

Oregon at #3 opens with South Dakota which is not to be confused with South Dakota State. South Dakota plays in the Missouri Valley Conference and was 4-8 last season.

The Ducks return Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota at QB and should win this game with considerable ease. Look for a lot of back ups to get some experience in this game.

#4 Oklahoma hosts Louisiana Tech

#5 Ohio State is taking on Navy in Baltimore. Game is interesting to see how Braxton Miller’s replacement will play. I thought JT Barrett was the best back up in the spring game and he will start

#6 Auburn is hosting SEC rival Arkansas. SEC Network.

#7 UCLA travels to Virginia

# 11 Stanford has UC Davis coming to town.

# 12 Georgia has #16 Clemson and rival coming in one of the games of theĀ  week.
