Dak Prescott Hype

Where is all of the Dak Prescott hype this season? Last year, they were comparing him to Tim Tebow, Cam Newton and Jesus. With his size and running ability and all of the media attention I was thinking he must walk on water. This year, with the 2015 season upon us, there’s been almost nothing about Prescott.

Last year’s late season collapse after being ranked number one was possibly the culprit.

The Bulldogs were on a roll and were thought by the experts to be the best team in the country until they played Alabama at Tuscaloosa and they lost. However, the game was competitive and the Bulldogs just almost came back on the Crimson Tide before losing 20 to 25.

After bouncing back against hapless Vanderbilt, they were soundly beaten by in state rivals, Ole Miss.

In the Orange Bowl, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets gave the Bulldogs another beat down. But, Prescott threw for a season high 453 and 3 Touchdowns and he didn’t play on the defensive side of the ball. The vaunted SEC defense could not stop the Georgia Tech Flexbone offense when they rolled up 452 yards on the ground.

Prescott is still the same Quarterback that he was when the hype machine was rolling along last season, but almost nobody is talking about him right now.

Suddenly, the media has backed off of it’s loving feelings about Prescott and he’s no longer the Tim Tebow clone he once was.

He is no longer a front runner for the Heisman Trophy, and has disappeared off the daily ESPN hype machine.

Prescott finished 8th in the Heisman Trophy Voting in 2014, just ahead of Arizona Linebacker Scooby Wright. He went from a frontrunner to just slightly ahead of the Linebacker votes. Linebackers never win Heisman Trophies so Dak Prescott took a tremendous tumble down a hilly section of glory road.

Prescott threw for nearly 3,500 yards and 27 Touchdowns while running for just a shade under 1,000. Electing to come back for his senior season, Prescott now has 5,553 yards passing and 41 touchdown passes. On the ground, he has run for 1,933 yards and 31 Touchdowns.

He has a chance at passing for over 9,000 career yards and to run for around 3,000 yards and he’s not even being mentioned any more as a Heisman candidate?

Prescott threw for 453 yards and 3 Touchdowns against Georgia Tech in their bowl game, and he ran for 47 more and another Touchdown.  Last I checked Prescott didn’t play Linebacker for Mississippi State which might have helped in the Orange Bowl.

I do realize that all of the SEC chest pumping has come back to haunt them of late with the national guys, but he’s still a top Quarterback in a top conference and should have another good to great season.

Yet, nobody is talking about him much at all this season, or maybe I just turned the volume down on ESPN.

Dak Prescott should have a good senior season even though the Mississippi State Bulldogs lost some talent off of last year’s team.

I don’t think he is the best Quarterback in the country, but I didn’t think he was last season either.

I just think it’s puzzling that he seems to have been blacklisted, like McCarthy from the 1950s style. Hey, Paul Finebaum and other SEC experts, he is still the same Quarterback he was going into 2014, but now he has more experience.
