The Piesman Trophy 2017

When I first started blogging, I contacted SBNation about working with them, just out of curiosity. They told me they were only interested in experienced bloggers with an established blog. All of their bloggers focus on one team only depending on their favorites, I believe, and I am in no way interested in that because you miss a lot of football outside of your favorite team.

Don’t feel bad if you have never heard of SBNation’s Piesman Trophy, I hadn’t either until yesterday. But, suddenly, I am all about the Piesman because it gives glory to the Offensive or Defensive Linemen that are used in trick plays, or score a Touchdown, or do things that linemen do not usually

get to do on the football field.

I’m all about that. Linemen, particularly Offensive Linemen, do not get enough credit in football. The Quarterbacks tend to get all of the credit, or all of the blame, but they definitely get noticed. The Offensive Linemen do not get any credit and only get noticed when they get a holding penalty, or they give up a sack.

Even though I was rejected by SBNation, and I do not handle rejection very well, I do support the Piesman Trophy. My love of pies is almost unmatchable. I am all about pies. It can be pecan, apple, chocolate, strawberry or well it really doesn’t matter. If it’s pie, I like it.

Of course, when involving Offensive and Defensive Linemen, food is going to be involved. The question often comes up, do you like pie, or do you like cake. My answer is usually a resounding YES!. I love them both and if offered a choice of pie, or cake, I generally just take a slice of each.

But, you can’t go wrong with pie. SBNation has done well naming their rather obscure Trophy after one of the greatest of the food groups, PIE. I like it.

They have a list of 24 voters and they have a watch list, much like that other Trophy, the Heisman.

Besides being a fan of pie and cake, I am also a huge fan of history and the Piesman Trophy goes

back, way back.

The first winner of the Trophy was Southeastern Louisiana’s Ashton Henderson in 2015. Last year’s Trophy went to Pittsburgh Right Tackle Brian O’Neill.

O’Neill was recruited to Pittsburgh as a Tight End and he bulked up to move inside to Tackle. I am sure a lot of pie was involved with that. In one of the Pittsburgh games, it was said that he set his alarm and got up in the middle of the night and ate peanut butter sandwiches to gain the weight needed to play tackle and then went right back to bed. I refuse to believe he didn’t sneak a few pies in with those sandwiches.

The Piesman is a well named, well deserved, well appreciated award that I am sure will grow over

time and some day be just as big as the Heisman which goes to Quarterbacks, or Running Backs almost every year. Well, maybe it won’t grow much at all, but it should. Without the big uglies up front on either side of the ball, your favorite team i snot going to win very many games.

Not only are pies necessary, but so is the Piesman Trophy.

It’s about time that the general public gets involved with this awesome trophy. Grab a pie and sit down and watch the action. But, first, the great guys at SBNation have to get this event televised.

Might I suggest a pie eating contest for the losers of the award?
