Juwan Johnson and the Penn State Wide Receivers 2017

Currently, the state of Florida has more NFL players than any other state, followed by California and  Texas. The state of Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Alabama and New Jersey. The amazing states on this list are Louisiana and Alabama because they have so many professional players and their population is much smaller than the other states on this list.

But, New Jersey is definitely a state that you want to recruit with a passion along with most of these other talent rich states.

The Miami Hurricanes have often signed players from New Jersey, but the ones that seem to have

benefited the most over the decades have been schools like Penn State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Penn State has made a reputation off of New Jersey recruits.

Saeed Blacknall, Brandon Bell, Mike Gesicki, Manny Bowen, Steven Gonzalez, Brendan Mahan, John Reid and Antoine White are some of their current players from Jersey.

But, also from New Jersey is young and talented Wide Receiver Juwan Johnson.

Penn State head coach James Franklin has been quoted by several sources as saying something along the lines of Juwan Johnson is the best Wide Receiver he has ever even seen.

From last year’s Big 10 Champion, Penn State lost top Wide Receiver Chris Godwin when he left early for the NFL after catching 59 passes for 982 yards and 11 Touchdowns. Godwin helped himself tremendously with his draft status by running a 4.42 at the NFL Combine.

In spite of needing to replace the talented Godwin, the Nittany Lions have a ton of talent at the Wide Receiver position.

Senior DaeSean Hamilton led the team in receptions in 2014 as a freshman, but his numbers have dropped off the past 2 seasons. Hamilton has a good shot at taking over as the leading receiver.

DeAndre Thompkins and Saeed Blacknall have plenty of talent with Thompkins having speed to burn. Brandon Polk is also a speedster supposely able to run a 40 in less than 4.4.

Blacknall is a good sized Wide Receiver at 6-3, 215, but Irvin Charles is even bigger at 6-4, 220.

Juwan Johnson may have the most upside of any of the returning receivers.

Johnson, from Glassboro, New Jersey, is supposed to be around 6-5, 210 and he has run a 10.6 100 meters. Johnson also supposedly has a 31 inch vertical. Johnson is a fast, high flying athlete that

could be the Nittany Lion’s next big thing.

Penn State’s offense should be really potent in 2017. Quarterback Trace McSorley and his emergence was a key to the Nittany Lions’ championship of a year ago. McSorley was a leader and a winner in high school and he is the same in college. McSorley

Super star Running Back Saquon Barkley has been another key factor. Other factors outside of the great Wide Receiving group is maybe the nation’s best Tight End Mike Gesicki PSU TE

Also, after years of struggles and lack of depth up front, the Offensive Line starting coming around.

It will be difficult to repeat as Big 10 champions with Ohio State and Michigan always being powerful.  But, this team should be fun to watch and keep an eye on more than likely up and coming star Juwan Johnson.
