Dalvin Cook Florida State Plays His Way Back In

Florida State started the season a little roughly by getting behind Ole Miss in the first half of their first game, 6- 28. The Seminoles went on the warpath and clubbed the Rebels brutally in the second half and won the game 45-34.

Seminole super star Dalvin Cook didn’t have the greatest of games, for him. He seemed to slip and slide all over the field and lose traction and just never could get running very well. He still ran for 91 yards on 23 carries. But, he did have an impressive day coming out of the backfield with 7 receptions for 101 yards.

Redshirt freshman Quarterback Deondre Francois stole the show with 419 yards and 2 Touchdowns.

Dalvin Cook and the Seminoles took on Charleston Southern in game two and it turned out pretty much as expected with a 52-8 drubbing.

Cook’s services weren’t really needed, but he did have 11 carries for 83 yards and 2 Touchdowns. The Seminoles impressed enough to become the 2nd ranked team in the country.

But, then Louisville and Lamar Jackson happened.

Cook was held to 54 yards on 15 carries by an aggressive Cardinals defense while new Heisman Trophy candidate Lamar Jackson shredded  the Seminole defense. The result was the biggest loss in Florida State football history, 20-63.

For all intents and purposes, Dalvin Cook was out of the Heisman race almost as soon as his last college season got rolling.

South Florida was next on the Florida State schedule and this game was huge for Florida State and Dalvin Cook. Would Florida State fall apart, or would they bring it back together and play like the team everybody thought they would be when the season started.

This performance got him right back in the thick of things with 495 rushing yards and 4 Touchdowns after 4 games.

Last year, Cook ran for 1,691 yards and 19 Touchdowns at about 5-11, 202. That was after running for 1,008 yards as a true freshman out of Miami.

Don’t count out Dalvin Cook just yet.
