South Carolina Spring Game

The South Carolina Gamecocks are riding high. 3 straight 11 win seasons, 3 straight top 10 finishes, and 5 wins in a row over Clemson.
The excitement was obvious with the large number of fans and it showed with Dylan Thompson who appears to be a big team leader. As a huge fan of Connor Shaw, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Thompson. But, he was one of the more impressive QBs in the spring games. The South Carolina Spring Game started with Dylan Thompson acting like Jameis Winston firing up the troops. Could be a big year for him, but he’s only played in about 3 full games in his first 3 years at South Carolina. dylan thompson

Both offensive lines were great in this game, mostly controlling the line of scrimmage.

Corey Robinson was at Left Tackle, A.J. Cann was back at Left Guard, and Cody Waldrop was at Center. Mike Matulis lined up at Right Guard and Brandon Shell was at Right Tackle and this unit was excellent most of the day. gamecock symbol

The second unit wasn’t far behind with Mason Zandi at Left Tackle and Brock Stadnik beside him at Guard. Clayton Stadnik was at Center and Will Sport playing Right Guard and Na’Ty Rodgers at the other Tackle. These guys were really good, too.

The Gamecocks even played a third Offensive Line so they are deep here. dylan thompson

Jerell Adams and Drew Owens looked good at TE and both are specimens at around 6-6 and 250 that can move.

Shon Carson, Rod Talley, David Williams and Devin Potter looked good at Running Back. south carolina football

The defense looked like Darius English and Gerald Dixon at the ends. Gerald Dixon Jr and J.T. Surratt manned the tackles. Inside backers were Skai Moore and Kaiwan Lewis, I believe.

Rico McWilliams, Brison Williams, Chaz Elder and Kadetrix Marcus started in the defensive backfield.

Other defensive players that stood out were Kelsey Griffin at Defensive Tackle and Chris Moody at safety.

Perry Orth and Brendan Nosovitch also played at QB and didn’t look too bad, but neither are a threat to Thompson. Hopefully, Steve Spurrier will get at least one of them some quality playing time this season.

Now is the Golden Age of Gamecock Football and it appears like next year could be another good season for them. Defense may be a bit worrisome at least early on, but they have some good looking athletes on the defensive side, too.
