Ronnie Stanley Notre Dame: Consider Me a Fan

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High School puts out about as much football talent as any school not named Ft Lauderdale St Aquinas or Long Beach Poly.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish signed Ronnie Stanley out of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman in their 2012 recruiting class.

He was a highly recruited prospect and rated a 4 star by the services. But, ESPN only had him as the 34th best Offensive Tackle in the country.

Rated ahead of Stanley were some guys like DJ Humphries of Florida, Andrus Peat of Stanford and Arik Armstead of Oregon that all went in the 1st round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Stanley came back for his last season and he was the top Offensive Tackle taken. The Baltimore

Ravens picked him with 6th overall pick in the Draft which will make Stanley something of a wealthy man.

Ronnie Stanley was a steady and really consistent performer at Left Tackle for the Fighting Irish over his career. He had a couple of small flaws in his game, but the good qualities that he possessed far outweighed any bad.

Most important, he is about 6-5, 315 with excellent quickness. He has the athleticism, long arms and quick feet to make an excellent long term NFL Left Tackle. He seems to be equally effective in both the pass and run blocking. He is aggressive and determined and he drives people off the ball as a run blocker.

He’s a college All American with a really good shot at becoming an All Pro NFL Tackle.

But there’s more to Ronnie Stanley than being a great football player.

As a dog lover, myself, I can appreciate another dog lover. I’ve written about my dog Duke on this football blog before. Anyone that knows me starts looking for Duke when they see me because we are usually together.

I like dogs and kids and I do very little to conceal that fact.

A lot of times when a person comes into some money, they are going to go after the high dollar object. He might want the big house and the sports car. Or, in the case of an animal lover, they may

go to a breeder and get an expensive dog.

Well, Ronnie Stanley, with his girlfriend and a teammate went into an animal shelter together. Stanley asked for a ‘dog that’s been here a long time, or maybe isn’t adoptable’.

He left with an abused 6 year old dog named Winter that had obviously mothered a bunch of puppies. Sadly, the dog was left in a closed up house with no water, or food, when she was found.

But, it looks like her bad times are behind her and she has finally found somebody that loves her.

That’s kind of a big deal to a dog lover such as myself.

Ronnie Stanley definitely just moved up my list of favorite football players.
