Nate Orchard and Henry Anderson

Neither of these guys play in the SEC, so not that many people probably know about them. But, these are the types of guys I would like on my favorite teams. Extremely productive guys that seemingly just get ready for the next play without all of the extracurricular trash talk and nonsense that has become the norm in sports of the modern age.

These are lunch pail kind of guys that bring it every single week and do their job’s extremely well, fanfare or no fanfare.

Nate Orchard is a 6-4, 255 Defensive End from Salt Lake City, Utah that plays for the Utah Utes. Orchard is tied with Washington Husky Outside Linebacker/Defensive End Hau’oli Kikaha with 16.5 sacks to lead the nation.

Orchard went off against UCLA back in October and had 4 sacks in one game and should have been one of my players of the week, but I unfortunately missed him.

This past week in a defensive slug fest with Stanford, Orchard went wild again with 3.5 sacks. Orchard also had 3.5 tackles for loss, 10 total tackles and he found time to force a fumble.

Don’t underestimate the Utah defense, even they are not ranked that highly. However, they have played quite a few high powered offenses which means their defense does not have the greatest of stats. The Ute defense does lead the entire nation in number of Quarterback sacks. Besides Orchard and his gaudy numbers, the Utes have Hunter Dimick on the other side with 9 sacks himself.

Nate Orchard has been a terror all season long with not only the 16.5 total sacks, so far, but he also has 19 tackles for loss.

Orchard has 73 total tackles on the season which is one of the tops for Defensive Linemen in the nation.

He has forced 2 fumbles and broken up 2 passes plus has another Quarterback hurry.

Nate Orchard played Wide Receiver and Defensive End in high school. He was the state of Utah’s 4A MVP after leading his Salt Lake City Highland High School to the 4A state championship. He also ran track and played basketball which are all indicators of what kind of athlete this guy is. College football recruiters should always consider facts like the kid playing basketball or wrestling when they are looking for potentially top college players.

Orchard was also a 4.0 student.

His real name is Napaa Lilo Fakahafua and we are all appreciative that he goes by his guardian’s name Orchard. Nate Orchard rolls off of my tongue much easier than Napaa Lilo Fakahafua.

Orchard had a classic battle with the Stanford Offensive Line this past weekend.

On the other sideline, Stanford’s Henry Anderson’s menacing presence wasn’t as well known for sacking the Quarterback.

But, Anderson went crazy playing against the Utah Utes on Saturday and had the game of his life.

Henry Anderson is a 6-6, 290 Defensive End from Atlanta, Georgia. I hope I don’t have to remind anybody but Atlanta is sitting right in the middle of SEC Country. He’s always been a force on the defensive front and is hard to move for any Offensive Lineman.

But, he has never been a large producer of sacks. During his sophomore season, Anderson had 50 tackles but only had 4.5 sacks. Anderson only had 3 sacks as a junior, but he missed some time due to injury.

This season, Anderson was not doing so well as far as getting to the Quarterback. The entire Stanford team is not doing well considering they were preseason top 10 for 2014 and they have not had a good season at all.

Anderson had maybe his best game of his career against Utah on Saturday night. He had 11 total tackles which is impressive for any Defensive Lineman. But, the most incredible stats for the night were the 5.5 tackles for losses and the 3 sacks of Utah Quarterback Travis Wilson.

Orchard may be on the smaller side for NFL scouts. Anderson is big enough, but may not please pro scouts for some reason or another, but both of these guys are hard working, tireless kinds of guys playing on their team’s defensive fronts and they are both fun guys to watch and especially if you are a huge fan of defense as I am.
