Oregon Quarterback Situation 2016

I love college basketball especially come tourney time, but I don’t like the one and done situation. A college will work hard to sign the top players so that they may have a shot at doing well in the NCAA tournament. Those hot shot basketball players come in and play one season of college basketball and then decide to make themselves available for the NBA Draft and the big bucks.

Of course, those shady agents are in their ears and some of them don’t even get drafted.

Alabama sort of got themselves in a similar situation at the Quarterback position starting in the 2014

season. Blake Sims won the Quarterback job in 2014 when he was a senior and he had a nice season, but then he was gone. In 2015, Florida State transfer Jake Coker took over for his senior season and the Crimson Tide won the national title.

Now, Coker is gone and the Crimson Tide must break in a new Quarterback for 2016.

Now, Oregon seems to be in the same situation. Since Marcus Mariota  won the Heisman Trophy, the Ducks took one and done graduate transfer Vernon Adams last season who helped them to a somewhat disappointing 9-4 record in the 2015 season.

Adams is now gone and they now have another graduate transfer in Dakota Prukop.

Prukop, originally from Austin, Texas played at Montana State. Now, that he graduated, he wanted to transfer to a top school and the Oregon Ducks won the right for his services.

He still has to win the job at Oregon. According to sources, Dakota Prukop and Travis Jonsen are in a serious battle for the starting job.

Jonsen was a 4 star recruit from Anaheim, California. He was one of the Ducks’ top recruits in the

2015 recruiting class and he redshirted last season.

In the Ducks’ most recent recruiting class, they signed 4 star Quarterback prospect out of Oklahoma, Terry Wilson. As an early enrollee, Wilson participated in Spring drills.

Wilson was rated as the 6th best dual threat Quarterback in the country and the Ducks stole him out of the state of Oklahoma. He has enormous potential, but it may take a little time to adjust to the level of play. He could use a redshirt season, probably.

Jeff Lockie was Vernon Adams back up last season and he will return for his senior season in 2016.

This battle should continue into August and beyond.

Check out the Ducks in September and see who they picked.
