Jabrill Peppers of Michigan and the New Two Way Players

With all of the hype surrounding LSU star Leonard Fournette with the 2014 recruiting class, Jabrill Peppers was almost a forgotten man.

Fournette was rated the top recruit by many services and Peppers was right behind him.

As a freshman, Peppers was ready to dominate but he was injured and had to sit out 2014.

Peppers started at Safety last year for the Wolverines and he was 6th on the team in tackles.  He broke up 10 passes, but he didn’t have any Interceptions. He did, however, have 5 1/2 tackles for loss.

He was the team’s chief punt returner and he was one of the kickoff return men.

Not only did the coaches use him on defense and special teams, but he was used in special situations on offense.

Peppers ran for 72 yards and 2 Touchdowns. He caught 8 passes for 79 yards.

Michigan used Peppers in goal line or short yardage situations and Peppers came up big.

In college football today guys like Peppers are all the rage. Peppers is a really talented player, but so is Adoree Jackson of USC and Jordan Whitehead of Pittsburgh.

Jordan Whitehead was Pittsburgh’s top recruit in 2015. He was a 4 star Cornerback prospect out of Monaco, Pennsylvania. He was the 11th rated Cornerback prospect in the ESPN rankings.

Whitehead had a true nose for the football and picked off one pass, but he also picked up a fumble which he returned for a Touchdown.

He also forced a fumble, had a sack, broke up 6 passes and had 6 tackles for loss.

Like Peppers, Whitehead was also used on offense. He rewarded his coaches with 122 yards rushing from only 12 carries. Those carries resulted in 2 Touchdowns.

He also caught 2 passes for 10 yards.

All of his offensive production came late in the year. On defense, Whitehead was the ACC Freshman of the Year.

Out West, USC had something similar going on with Adoree Jackson.

Jackson was a 5 star recruit and he started at Cornerback immediately. All three of these guys were recruited as Cornerbacks which demonstrates a little how great the athletes are that play that position.

Besides playing defense, Jackson caught 27 passes for 414 yards and 2 Touchdowns. That was after catching 10 passes as a freshman.

As a freshman, Jackson was the main Kickoff return man for the Trojans. As a sophomore, he took over the Punt return duties as well. He’s scored 2 Touchdowns with both Kicks and Punts. Jackson is just an explosive athlete.

Much the same as Jabrill Peppers of Michigan and Jordan Whitehead of Pittsburgh.
