The Rose Bowl is the Granddaddy of them all.
Considering all of the great players that have played in that game over the years, the things that Christian McCaffrey did was nothing less than amazing.
Marcus Allen, Charles White, Warren Moon, Archie Griffin, OJ Simpson, Reggie Bush and so many more elite players have played in this game.
Christian McCaffrey just had a game that was better than about all of them. He broke the total yardage record of Wisconsin Wide Receiver Jared Abbrederis who was quite the success story on his own. Against Oregon in the 2012 Rose Bowl, Abbrederis had 346 total yards most of which came on Kickoff returns.
McCaffrey set a new record with 368 all purpose yards. 172 of those yards came with 18 carries.
Another 105 yards came on 4 receptions making Christian McCaffrey the first player in over 100 years of the Rose Bowl to run for over 100 yards and gain another 100 plus yards receiving.
If you’ve read this blog before and any of the McCaffrey family updates, you would have noticed that I have been saying for a while that he was due to break a long punt return. Well, he did in the Rose Bowl taking one back 63 yards for a Touchdown.
To top all of that off, he also had 28 yards in one Kickoff return. If Iowa had ever really been in the game, he might have had an even more impressive yardage total.
On the season, Christian McCaffrey ran for 2,019 yards rushing on 337 carries with 8 Touchdowns.
He caught 45 passes for 645 yards and another 5 Touchdowns. On special teams, he returned 37 Kickoffs for 1,070 yards and a Touchdown with 15 punt returns for 130 yards and yet another Touchdown.

Max McCaffrey finished his college career with 4 catches for 42 yards. Not his best game, but the Duke Blue Devils and the Indiana Hoosiers played probably the best game of all of the bowl match ups. Duke survived an Overtime game winning when Indiana missed their Field Goal, to win 44-41.
Over his four year career, Max McCaffrey had 117 receptions for 1,341 yards and 12 Touchdowns.
It’s been a great season for the McCaffrey family. The youngest two sons were on the Colorado High School state championship team at Valor Christian.
The second son Christian was part of the Pac 12 champion team at Stanford and broke Barry Sanders’ total yardage record and the oldest son Max finished up a good career at Duke.
Thanks for having a bunch of fast and talented sons, Ed and Lisa McCaffrey.
