No matter what NFL Scouts think about Derrick Henry of Alabama, he has been an absolute destroyer at every level that he’s played.
As a high school player in Yulee, Florida Henry broke maybe the toughest record in all of sports to break. The all time high school career rushing record long held by Kenneth Hall of Sugarland, Texas known as the Sugarland Express has been in place since the 1950s. A lot of players have given that Henry
record a valiant shot, but Henry was the one that finally broke it. I wrote more about that here:
At Alabama, Derrick Henry played behind T.J. Yeldon and Kenyan Drake as a true freshman, but he showed flashes of future greatness while running for 382 yards. The impressive thing about Henry back then was that he averaged 10.91 yards per carry.
In 2014, Henry got the ball a lot more and he out gained Yeldon with 990 yards rushing to 979 yards for T.J. Drake missed most of the season with a severe injury.
Then, along came 2015 and a national championship for the Crimson Tide. Henry ran for 2,219 yards and 28 Touchdowns.
The 6-3, 240 Henry has decided to move on to the NFL leaving the Alabama Crimson Tide with something of a void at Running Back.

But, do they have anyone on campus, or anyone coming in that has any hope of adequately replacing Derrick Henry?
Sophomore Bo Scarbrough is the Running Back on the Alabama roster that is most like Derrick Henry. He is listed as 6-2, 240 and last season he was able to carry the ball only 18 times and he ran for 104 yards and a Touchdown. Scarbrough is a former 5 star recruit from home town Tuscaloosa.
Sophomore Damien Harris is another prospect in the running. Last year, Harris was the 3rd team back behind Henry and senior Kenyan Drake.
On the season, he carried the ball 46 times for 157 yards. Harris is much smaller at 5-11, 205.
Another possibility could be true freshman B.J. Emmons.
Emmons was the top Running Back on many recruiting lists and he is a talent at 6-0, 220. However, Emmons may not qualify academically.
Bama fans should be more concerned about Quarterback than Running Back because Scarbrough or Emmons is going to come through for them and probably big time.
