Miles Sanders Penn State Running Back

Last year, the Penn State Nittany Lions signed Saquon Barkley. He was a top 10 to top 15 Running Back depending on which recruiting lists you prefer.

Barkley was not rated highly enough and he was extremely impressive as a true freshman. I wrote about Barkley last year: Barkley

Barkley is something of a freak at over 220 pounds and running supposedly under 4.4 in the 40 yard

dash. He led the Penn State rushing attack last season with 1,076 yards rushing.

With Barkley just going into his sophomore season and his obvious talent, it took a lot of courage and confidence for a high school Running Back recruit to sign with the Nittany Lions.

But, Miles Sanders was apparently not worried about Barkley and he signed with Penn State this past February.

247Sports had Sanders as it’s top rated Running Back in the 2016 class. ESPN had him rated as the 3rd best Running Back in the country.

Pittsburgh Woodland Hills Running Back Miles Sanders, regardless of where you rank him, is one of the best Running Back prospects in the country.

Sanders is listed as 6-0, 205, but what sets him apart is his sheer explosiveness. The way he runs, he looks something like a Tony Dorsett, or a Reggie Bush. When he sees an opening, he’s just gone. From what I have seen of him, he’s a very fun player to watch.

Saquon Barkley is already being called the best Running Back in the Big 10, and some were even saying that when Ezekiel Elliott was still at Ohio State. I don’t agree with that assessment, but he is more than likely pretty easily the top Running Back in that league this year.

With Miles Sanders coming in to spell Barkley this year, that should give the Nittany Lions one of the best  1.2 punches North of Athens, Georgia and Nick Chubb being subbed by Sony Michel.

If Penn State can get around 1,500 yards rushing out of Barkley and at least 500 yards from Sanders, they could be a pretty dangerous opponent for anyone they play in 2016.

A year ago, or so, I wrote that Quarterback Christian Hackenberg should stay in school. My

reasoning was all of the talent returning at Penn State.

It’s not only at Running Back, but the Wide Receivers Chris Godwin and DaeSean Hamilton return as well as every other receiver on the roster. Tight End has a lot of good talent returning.

Granted, the Offensive Line has been a problem for a while, but Penn State head coach James Franklin has taken steps to make improvements here. First of all, he now has more bodies to work with. Because of the sanctions, the Lions had 9 scholarship Offensive Linemen when Franklin arrived. Now, they have 17 guys on scholarship. They are building depth and they have some experience returning.

With a new Offensive Coordinator in Joe Moorhead, and a new Offensive Line coach in Matt Limegrover, Franklin and the new Offensive staff are making changes up front and it should pay off on the field.

Apparently, every Offensive Line position is still up for grabs other than the Left Tackle spot which is occupied by Andrew Nelson.

Penn State fans have seemingly lost patience with head coach James Franklin and when I ask, nobody answers why Franklin had such success at Vanderbilt.

I still have full confidence that Franklin can get the machine rolling at Penn State if given the chance.

Players like Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders are definitely a move in the right direction.
