Richard Lagow Indiana Quarterback

One of college football’s best kept secrets is the great offensive mind of Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson.

Like most really good offensive coaches, he does seem to forget that he needs a better defense. But, his offenses have been fun to watch over the past few years.

Indiana was one of the few schools around with two Running Backs that topped the 1,000 yard barrier. Junior transfer Jordan Howard ran for 1,213 yards and he has now declared for the NFL Draft. His back up in 2015 was sophomore Devine Redding and he ran for 1,012 yards.

The outstanding running game helped open the door for the Hoosier passing game. Senior Quarterback Nate Sudfeld led the Hoosiers to a 6-6 regular season record and their first bowl game since 2007. They earned a bowl bid in the Pinstripe Bowl and lost an Overtime thriller to Duke.

Sudfeld threw for 3,573 yards and 27 Touchdowns. At 6-6, 240 Sudfeld is an intriguing NFL prospect, but he would have to be considered something of a long shot.

Sudfeld is a big loss to the Hoosier offense, but they did sign 6-6, 235 Junior College transfer Richard Lagow as a possible replacement.

In the 2013 recruiting class, Lagow signed with the Connecticut Huskies out of Plano High School. He was listed at the time at 6-5, 205 and his 40 time was supposedly 5.4.

When Richard Lagow arrived at UConn, the coaching staff had changed so he decided it wasn’t the best place for him any longer.

He left and walked-on at Oklahoma State. The plight of walk-on players is pretty much the same every where. The chances of being noticed and earning playing time over scholarship players is often pretty slim.

Apparently, Lagow saw the writing on the wall and left Oklahoma State for Cisco Junior College.

At Cisco, Lagow put up good numbers which is relatively unimportant since the competition is

questionable. What you can see from watching his highlight videos is the obvious size and arm strength. Despite the reported 5.4 40 yard dash time listed when he signed with UConn a few years back, Lagow can really run for a tall Quarterback. He looks to be way more mobile than previous Hoosier Quarterback Nate Sudfeld.

Richard Lagow must beat out last year’s back up Zander Diamont who has the heart of a lion. But, I am thinking Indiana coach Kevin Wilson goes with Lagow because of his size and his arm.

The Hoosiers lose 2 Offensive Linemen including star Left Tackle Jason Spriggs, but they return one of the best Offensive Guards in the country in Dan Feeney.

Plus, Left Guard Jacob Bailey and Right Tackle Dimitric Camiel

They also return their top three receivers in Simmie Cobbs Jr, Mitchell Paige and Ricky Jones.

Richard Lagow is already enrolled at Indiana and will participate in Spring Drills. As much as I love Zander Diamont, I am betting that Lagow wins the Quarterback job and leads the Hoosiers to another interesting season in 2016. The Hoosiers will always have a battle on their hands with Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State in their division of the Big 10. But, if this year will be like last season, the Hoosiers will be competitive with the best of them.
