Chris Clark Pittsburgh Tight End

Avon Old Farms School is an all boys boarding school located in Avon, Connecticut. It’s actually pretty well known for putting out good hockey players and a few other athletes over the years. Chris Clark played Tight End for Avon and at about 6-6, 255 he was totally dominating as a receiver and as a blocker. The competition level is probably pretty weak, but Clark’s game was not. ESPN had him ranked as the 4th best Tight End in the country, but most of the rest of the recruiting services had him as their number 1 guy.

Clark looked really athletic with good hands and some nice speed for his size after he caught the ball. He appears to have a good vertical with some nice catches for scores in the End Zone.

Everybody wanted Chris Clark. Anybody that needed a great pass catching Tight End that can block need look no further than Chris Clark from Avon, Connecticut.

Clark is originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey and a lot of really good Tight Ends came out of

Jersey. Penn State Tight End Mike Gesicki is from New Jersey as is future number one pick David Njoku of Miami. So is former Miami Tight End and current Carolina Panther 1st round draft pick, Greg Olson.

While being recruited, Chris Clark committed to North Carolina’s Tar Heels and head coach Larry Fedora. But, he changed his mind when Michigan offered saying he always wanted to go to Michigan. The Wolverines head coach Brady Hoke was fired and Clark changed his mind again and opened up his recruiting. He didn’t even reconsider Michigan when they hired Jim Harbaugh and kept looking around until signing day when he shocked anyone following his recruiting and signed with the UCLA Bruins.

Chris Clark must like recruiting, because after a short stay at UCLA something happened and he decided to leave. Supposedly, he had a run in with either one of the coaches, or Bruin head coach Jim Mora. The Bruins’ offense really doesn’t feature a Tight End and I have no idea why a guy like this would even consider that offense.

But, he was gone and the coaches were after him again.

Some of his friends were attending Syracuse, and he committed to attend Syracuse. But, the Orange were going through a coaching change and rumors had it that they were not really that interested in a big, fast Tight End like Chris Clark.

They parted ways, and supposedly Syracuse pulled his scholarship offer.

But, by this time, Chris Clark was starting to be cast as a flake, or a quitter, by some.

He finally settled on Pittsburgh and he had to sit out last season because of the transfer rule. As of this Spring, Chris Clark is still on the Pitt Panther roster.

It’s definitely a position of need for the Panthers. Last season’s really good Tight End Scott Orndoff was a senior as was his main back up, Jaymar Parrish.

Devon Edwards was a Tight End in 2016, but moved to the Defensive End position to help with depth. He may have a shot at playing Tight End in 2017 with the lack of numbers.

Air Force transfer Nathan Bossory is also available, but he’s a tad undersized at 6-3, 235 and has not played much outside of special teams.

Walk-on DeAndre Schifino is the only other Tight End on the roster and he is also undersized.

With the 2017 recruiting class, the Panthers bring in  Charles Reeves, who is a 6-5, 235 3 star Tight End from Steubenville, Ohio.

They also signed 3 stars Grant Carrigan from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania and Tyler Sear from New Castle, Pennsylvania. Carrigan is a nice project Tight End at 6-8, 245 and Sear is 6-4, 250.

The big question could be whether Chris Clark makes it through Spring Drills and into the Fall and actually plays for the Panthers. That’s probably a fair question since he has been flighty so far. But,  Clark is still 6-6, 255 and a real talent at the Tight End position. I have a feeling he probably plays himself back into the good graces of those that have been condemning him. He’s a solid blocker and he can run, with his size what more could you want.

Now, if the Panthers can just find a Quarterback and a defense.

Max Browne has transferred to Pittsburgh from USC where he was beaten out by Sam Darnold. Browne did not work out at USC, but Nate Peterman did not work out at Tennessee, either.

Ben DiNucci played in the Pinstripe Bowl when Peterman was injured, and he could be the man to beat in the Quarterback race.

Somebody has got to get the ball to Chris Clark.

If he sticks around.
