Rosen and Washington’s Jake Browning

Maybe college coaches should spend more time recruiting in California if they need a starting Quarterback right away.

Last season, the Miami Hurricanes brought in Brad Kaaya from West Hills, California. He responded with an impressive 3,198 yards and 26 Touchdowns as Miami tries to fight it’s way back into the

national spotlight. Kaaya started slowly this past weekend, but they had a laugh worthy game against Bethune – Cookman and he didn’t need a lot of passing yardage as the Hurricanes rolled, 45-0.

The 2015 season may have doubled our pleasure.

I have already posted twice about Josh Rosen and on Saturday against a worthy Virginia, he was extremely impressive.

He threw 35 passes and completed 28 of them to his teammates for 351 yards and 3 Touchdowns against zero Interceptions. His stats could have been even better without a drop of a perfectly thrown bomb on his very first pass.

The Manhattan Beach, California product is 6-4, 210 with a strong arm and obviously a great head on his shoulders.

His future is more than bright at UCLA and hopefully beyond.

Another Californian possibly making a splash this season is Washington Huskies true freshman signal caller Jake Browning. The Granite Bay, California product is not quite as physically gifted as Rosen and Kaaya, but he is talented and checks in at 6-2, 205.

Washington Huskies coach picked Browning over junior Jeff Lundquist and redshirt freshman K.J. Carta-Samuels.

Browning played a tough opponent in Boise State and wasn’t as impressive as his fellow true freshman Josh Rosen. He did complete 20 passes out of 35 attempts which was good for 150 yards and no Touchdowns. Facing a really good and ranked Boise State team, Browning did throw an Interception.

Browning was an impressive high school Quarterback and more than likely will be a really good college Quarterback as well.

College recruiters might want to get involved with some California Quarterback recruits for 2016. The top rated Quarterback recruit out of California right now is Malik Henry from Long Beach who is currently committed to Florida State.

Behind him is K.J. Costello from Rancho Santa Margarita and he is committed to Stanford. Then, there is Devon Modster also from Rancho Santa Margarita who is committed to Arizona. Patrick O’Brien is a big, strong Quarterback from San Juan Capistrano and he is currently committed to Nebraska.

There is also Max Gilliam from Thousand Oaks and he is headed to Cal Berkeley.

All of these guys are committed already, so it may be time to move to 2017. But, recruits have been known to flip to other schools as well.

But, right now, if I am a college coach looking for a future Quarterback, I am going to examine the high school ranks in California very thoroughly.
