Gus ‘the Bus’ Edwards Transfers to Rutgers

Gus Edwards is a Running Back that I thought would break out the past couple of seasons, but he didn’t. The Bus

Gus ‘the Bus’ Edwards has now graduated from Miami and since he was a back up at Miami to Mark Walton he decided to transfer somewhere closer to his Staten Island, New York home. Obviously, the goal was more playing time.

In a move uncharacteristic of Mark Richt, Edwards was blocked from transferring to Pittsburgh, or Syracuse which are both in the same Division of the ACC as Miami.

Edwards finally decided on Rutgers of the Big 10 Conference.

In Chris Ash’s first season, the Rutgers Scarlett Knights finished with a rather uninspiring 2-10

record. The Scarlett Knights can use help just about everywhere on the roster. Gus Edwards will bring help, but it will be just temporary.

Returning at Rutgers for their senior seasons are Running Backs Robert Martin and Josh Hicks, plus, sophomore Trey Sneed.

Hicks ran for 157 yards and Sneed ran for 53 total yards.

At Miami, the back up Edwards ran for 290 yards while playing behind Walton and Joseph Yearby. As a freshman, back in the 2013 season, Edwards ran for 338 yards and 5 Touchdowns. In the 2014 season, Edwards ran for 349 yards and 6 Touchdowns. He missed the 2015 season due to injury, but came back in 2016 and I figured the coaching change would do him wonders.

It didn’t.

Now, the seasoned 6-1, 230 Edwards will start over at Rutgers with a year of eligibility left. His family should enjoy Gus Edwards being closer to home and the chance to see all of his home games.

The Scarlett Knights return just about everybody from last season. On Offense, they lose only Wide Receiver Andre Patton and Right Guard Chris Muller.

Reasonably, Edwards has little chance of succeeding at Rutgers and the team improving. There’s little chance of Gus the Bus making it to the NFL.

But, a guy has to dream.
