All Freshman Team 2018

QB: Trevor Lawrence – Clemson: Kelly Bryant is going to start at Clemson, for now. But, Trevor Lawrence is one of the more talented quarterbacks to ever play high school football. He will be a great one, but how soon, and how soon does he take over the starting role. Bryant is supposed to be improved and coaches are going to tend to stick with experienced players, but Lawrence is really, really gifted.

QB: JT Daniels – USC: Daniels is skipping his senior year in high school and he has the ability to take over the quarterbacking job at USC as a high school senior. He will have to beat out inexperienced returnees Jack Sears and Matt Fink. But, most think Daniels is good enough to get that done.

QB: Adrian Martinez – Nebraska: I don’t believe anyone on the Nebraska roster can beat out true incoming freshman Adrian Martinez. ESPN has Martinez rated as their 8th best pocket passer quarterback which could be laughable if they watched the guy’s highlights. He runs like a deer and is perfect for a Scott Frost offense. I believe Frost may have found his Mckenzie Milton with Adrian Martinez.

QB: Dorian Thompson-Robinson – UCLA: The Bruins hired Chip Kelly and quarterback recruit

Dorian Thompson-Robinson might be the next big thing for the Bruins. Time will tell, but the once highly thought of Mora left the cupboard bare at UCLA.

RB: Ricky Slade – Penn State: Slade was the second ranked running back in the nation on ESPN’s list only behind Zamir White. Miles Sanders should take Saquon Barkley’s position, but nobody really replaces a Barkley. If Sanders can get it done, then Slade will have to wait his turn. But, there should be some competition here.

RB: Zamir White – Georgia: The highest rated running back in the country, but he will have to fight for playing time at Georgia. I feel pretty confident that the Bulldogs coaching staff will find a place for a talent like this on the field. Georgia did lose Sony Michel and Nick Chubb, but still have some talent with D’Andre Swift, Elijah Holifield and Brian Herrion.

RB: Lorenzo Lingard – Miami: Another bright young talent that will be too good to keep off the playing field. The Hurricanes return Travis Homer, but he will not be able to keep Lingard off the playing field.

RB: Marcus Washington – Nebraska: It’s been a while since the Huskers had a really good running back and a really good team. Scott Frost is here to change that and Washington could be his new talent at running back.

WR: Amon-Ra St Brown – USC: St Brown is a talent that teamed with USC quarterback JT Daniels in high school and they should form another early connection as true freshmen. St Brown is a speedy receiver with great hands and ready to explode onto the college scene.

WR: Marquis Spiker – Washington: The Huskies are talented across the board, but they could use a talent like Spiker to improve their wide receiver group. He’s already moving up the depth charts and should be on the field pretty early.

WR: Justin Shorter – Penn State: The 6-4, 220 Shorter was the top rated receiver in the land this

past season and the Nittany Lions will find a way to get this guy on the field.

WR: Terrance Marshall – LSU: I have to wonder who will get the ball to Marshall, maybe the Big 10 transfer. But, no matter who is coaching, or playing quarterback in Baton Rouge, Marshall is one of the very best in the country.

WR: Justyn Ross – Clemson: The Tigers came into Crimson Tide and Auburn Tiger territory and stole Ross right from under their noses. He is already turning heads at Clemson and even though the Tigers have plenty of top players at wide receiver, Ross will see the field early and often.

WR: Rondale Moore – Purdue: First committed to Texas and then switched to Louisville. There’s no doubt he will play right away and play well. Great speed and hands, with the ability to be big time. Purdue coach Jeff Brohm is big time, too, and will take this team places they haven’t been since the days of Drew Brees, or even further back with those great teams of the 1960s.

WR: Austin Williams – Miss State: Listed as a back up, this redshirt freshman was the star of the Bulldog’s spring game. He runs great routes and has the hands to be a difference maker if given the opportunity.

WR: Ed Hendrix – Syracuse: The Orange is going to air it out with senior quarterback Eric Dungey. The Orange lost top receivers Steve Ishmael and Ervin Phillips so the opportunity is there. Hendrix is a 6-3, 190 4 star recruit from Washington DC that has all the intangibles.

TE: Brevin Jordan – Miami: The Hurricanes have had a multitude of great tight ends in recent times, but they are presently out and Jordan was the highest rated tight end recruit in the country out of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. With the injury to Michael Irvin Jr, Jordan should be able to move right into the starting lineup and give the Canes an immediate weapon.

TE: Jeremy Ruckert – Ohio State: Just too good to keep off the field. The Buckeyes have had good blocking tight ends, but Ruckert should give them more of a receiving threat from the position. Ruckert is a very impressive young talent.

OT: Austin Troxell – Auburn: The Tigers lost a lot of players up front and redshirt freshman Austin Troxell is supposed to start this season at right tackle. At about 6-7, 315 Troxell is perfectly sized for the position,

OT: Silas Dzansi – Virginia Tech: Already penciled in as a starter at left tackle, Dzansi is a young man with an enormous amount of potential. At 6-5, 315 he will only get bigger and better as he matures from a young teenager.

OT: Brey Walker – Oklahoma: The Sooners always seem to get the most out of their offensive

linemen and Walker should not be any different. He is a back up right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he moves up.

OG: Matt Bockhorst – Clemson: Not currently a starter, Bockhorst is impressive with his intensity so he might be a guy to keep an eye on and maybe a guy that moves into the starting position as the season wears on.

OG: Blaise Andries – Minnesota: I believe the Gophers are a team on the move under young and energetic coach, PJ Fleck. He will need a little time to compete in the Big 10 West, but this is another coach that can get the best out of his players. Andries is a big redshirt freshman offensive guard with loads of potential.

C:  Brett Neilon – USC: The Trojans have had trouble at center for the past few years. Injuries do happen in football, obviously, but it seems the Trojans have been snake bitten up front. Neilon is a talented young kid that gives them the potential for solidarity in their offensive line.

DE: Ronnie Perkins – Oklahoma: True freshman is already listed as a starter for the Sooners at defensive end.

DE: Giovanni Reviere – Purdue:

DE: Thomas Booker – Stanford:

DE: Xavier Thomas – Clemson: The Tigers are absolutely loaded at defensive end and it’s hard to say how much Thomas will actually play. But, he is just so talented it will be hard to keep him off the field.

DT: Calvin Avery – Illinois: a 4 star tackle out of Texas that was highly coveted by top notch programs. I have a feeling people aren’t agreeing with me about the Illini under Lovie Smith, but he is adding talent and he just needs a big time quarterback and some experience at the other positions and they will be better.

DT: Robert Cooper – Florida State: This guy is a monster and should be unblock able from day one. Florida State lost some talent up front and possibly Cooper can help right away. He’s probably around 6-1, 350 and ESPN has him as their 6th ranked defensive tackle.

LB: Ellis Brooks – Penn State: I meant to write a blog post about the Penn State recruiting class of 2018. Most recruiting sources have their class rated in the top 5. They have some really great talent and look towards being a national power in the Northeast.

LB: Micah Parsons – Penn State: With the addition of Ellis Brooks and Micah Parsons, Penn State could be back as far as Linebacker U. Both Parsons and Brooks are among the best in the nation at their particular positions and they should both see the field early.

LB: Palaie Gaoteote – USC: The Trojans signed the top rated inside linebacker in the nation. You’ll need a little talent to say his name, but that takes nothing away from his on field abilities. I wouldn’t

be surprised at all if Gaoteote was lined up next to Cam Smith at an inside linebacking position some time this season.

LB: Payton Wilson – North Carolina State: Wilson was one of the most impressive players I saw this past season. He’s tall and rangy with the ability to play linebacker, defensive end, safety, or even on the offensive side at tight end, or fullback. He’s listed as 6-5, 225, but played running back in high school. But, he’s a killer at linebacker and should play as a true freshman.

CB: Corione Harris – Kansas: The Jayhawks might should just drop football and focus only on basketball. Harris makes this team mostly by default. He should move right into the starting lineup as a true freshman. Whether he is just good, or Kansas is just bad, is another matter.

CB: Paris Ford – Pittsburgh: Ford is another young talent that will push for playing time early on. This is not a bad Pittsburgh team, but Ford brings some skills to the position and I see him playing early on.

CB: Patrick Surtain – Alabama: Rated as one of the top corners in the country, Surtain is almost certain to see the field early for the defending national champions. The Crimson Tide always returns talent, so he’d better be as good as advertised. But, I feel that he will be and he will play.

CB: Al Blades Jr – Miami: This guy makes me feel older than the hills. I do very well remember his talented father and junior is supposed to be really good as well. If he is anything at all like dad, he will be playing early on for the Canes.

CB: Kenneth Major – Purdue: Believe me, Jeff Brohm is killing it at Purdue and Major seems to be another young talent that Brohm and staff will get the most out of. Brohm is not going to recruit as well as an Alabama, because those kids don’t qualify sometimes, but he’s recruiting better talent and they are just outstanding coaches as you could tell if you watched them.

CB: Noah Daniels – TCU: Another coach that gets the most out of his players is Gary Patterson at TCU. Daniels is a talented corner, but may need to wait his time. I think he plays early and does well for the Frogs.

CB: Tyson Campbell – Georgia: Kirby Smart is tearing it up on the recruiting trail and cornerback Campbell is another example of the talent he is bringing in to Georgia. Campbell will have to be really good to get any playing time, but I think he moves in and plays a lot.

CB: Darnay Holmes – UCLA: This is an excellent opportunity for Chip Kelly, but he’s got his work cut out for him. Kelly was never known as a great recruiter, but he did enough at Oregon to play for a national championship one season. Holmes has the talent to play early and Mora did the Bruins few

favors.

DB: Caden Sterns – Texas: The Longhorns signed the top 3 rated safeties in the country on ESPN’s list and Sterns was one of them. Sterns committed to LSU first, but switched to home state Texas and stuck with them. In early reports, Sterns has looked as good as advertised and should start at one of the safety positions.

DB: Brendan Radley-Hiles – Oklahoma: One of the top safety prospects in the nation and the Sooners have room for new and gifted players on their defense. I see Radley-Hiles coming in and playing right away for the Sooners.

DB: Andre Cisco – Syracuse: Also on my all name team, the Cisco Kid is already in the starting lineup according to internet sources. I think Dino Babers will do well at Syracuse, if given the time, but the defense still has a ways to go.

DB: BJ Foster – Texas: One of the other top safety prospects for the Longhorns in this recruiting class. Foster was possibly the top recruit in the state of Texas in 2018 and he should see playing time at one of the safety positions or at the nickle.

DB: Scott Nelson – Wisconsin: This redshirt freshman is listed as a starter, already, but he had better come ready to play because opponents are going to try and exploit the Badger secondary because of it’s youth. I have high hopes for Nelson and the entire Badger team in 2018 since I have them making the playoffs in my early predictions.
