Patrick Towles Kentucky, Why No Love?

Patrick Towles is a 6-5, 240 Quarterback for the Kentucky Wildcats.

I’m really not sure why he isn’t getting the media attention.

Towles started 2014 off with a bang with a 5-1 start before plummeling to an 0-6 finish and they finished the season with an unremarkable 5-7 record. But, that was a huge improvement for Towles, the Wildcats and their head coach Mark Stoops.

Patrick Towles at 6-5, 240 has that prototypical NFL size. He has a strong arm and is very athletic. I am not comparing him at all to Andrew Luck, but he has some of that same ability with his size, strength and speed.

He is a junior which is the time that most of these guys are leaving school these days in their quest for NFL stardom and the big bucks. Compared to some of the guys that they keep pushing on us such as Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg and maybe even Connor Cook of Michigan State, Towles has at least as much potential.

But, I have seen nothing on him by any of the people that hype up these guys.

I’m wondering what the NFL scouts are thinking on Patrick Towles. What are these guys looking for?

Ideal size? Check. He’s about perfect there.

Arm strength? Check.

Mobility? Check.

Intelligent? Not sure.

Leadership? Not sure.

This season should tell us more.

Last season, Towles threw for just over 2,700 yards with 14 Touchdowns and 9 Interceptions. However, most of his yardage and Touchdowns came early in the season and most of his Interceptions came later on when the team was falling fast.

The Kentucky Wildcats of 2014 had one of the worst defenses in America. On the offensive side of the ball, they had a lot of youth at every position.

That’s not to make excuses for Patrick Towles, but I have seen those reasons thrown out in defense of Christian Hackenberg and why he fell apart in the 2014 season after having such a good true

freshman season in 2013.

So far in 2015, Patrick Towles has completed 37 passes out of 63 attempts good for 449 yards and 3 Touchdowns. He also has 2 Interceptions.

He is a guy that I feel could benefit from staying another year in college, but college athletes don’t see it that way much any more and a lot of them are getting terrible advice from terrible people.

Supposedly, in the Spring and early Summer, Towles barely beat out up and coming freshman Drew Barker for the starting position.

If that is true, the biggest person that should want Patrick Towles gone is Drew Barker.

It’s a huge jump from college football to the NFL and especially at Quarterback.

But, Patrick Towles appears to have all of the tools, at least on paper.

Maybe he’s just a step or two above Tyrone Swoopes….all the physical talent in the world, but just doesn’t have that “IT” factor!
