Must Watch College Football: #3 Louisville at #2 Clemson in Death Valley

At the beginning of the year, Clemson versus Florida State was supposed to be the game of the year. It will still be a big game between two schools that don’t like each other much. It should be a fun game to watch.

However, Lamar Jackson and Louisville came along and ruined Florida State’s national title hopes. The 63-20 whipping that Louisville administered to the Seminoles was beyond shocking. Louisville was highly thought of before the game, but afterwards Lamar Jackson was suddenly at the top of the Heisman watch lists and Louisville was near the top of most new Polls.

Clemson and their own Heisman candidate, Deshaun Watson, and their own national title hopes may be offended by all of the attention thrown towards Louisville.

The game is in Clemson’s version of Death Valley. This version of Death Valley never leaves at

halftime.

It will be the 4-0 Louisville Cardinals ranked 3rd against the 4-0 Clemson Tigers ranked 2nd

Lamar Jackson started as a true freshman a year ago, and he did well. But, this year he has just exploded and the country has noticed.

After 4 games, Jackson has 1,330 yards and 13 Touchdowns passing. He has run for 526 yards and 12 Touchdowns.

By comparison, Clemson’s Deshaun Watson has thrown for 996 yards and 9 Touchdowns. Surprisingly, Watson only has 120 rushing yards and no Touchdowns as of yet. These stats are shocking because Watson threw for over 4,000 yards last season and ran for over 1,000.

You could call this game a match up between Heisman contenders, but both of these teams are so much more.

Other notable Louisville offensive players are Running Back Brandon Radcliff, Wide Receivers James Quick, Jamari Staples and Jaylen Smith. Tight End Cole Hikutini and Offensive Linemen Tobijah Hughley and Geron Christian combine to lead one of the nation’s great offenses.

They are averaging over 63 points per game after 4 games.

Trying to slow them down will be a Clemson defense with outstanding down linemen. True freshman Dexter Lawrence is a former 5 star recruit that has proven the rankings to be correct  and he is already 3rd on the team in tackles.

But, sophomore Christian Wilkins is no slouch and senior Carlos Watkins likely plays in the NFL next season.

Clelin Ferrell, Albert Huggins and Scott Pagano are also beasts up front. Linebackers Kendall Joseph, Ben Boulware, Dorian O’Daniel, Jalen Williams and Tre Lamar are all tough and fast. Van Smith and Cordrea Tankersley lead the Defensive Backs.

This defense is ranked 3rd in the country, but they will have their hands full.

Louisville defenders will be trying to stop another potent offense and should also have their work cut out for them.

Probably the Cardinals best defensive player is Georgia transfer Josh Harvey-Clemons. At 6-5, 230 Harvey-Clemons is like a Linebacker playing Safety and he leads the team in tackles right now.

Keith Kelsey is one of the better Linebackers in the nation, but don’t count out other Linebackers Stacy Thomas and Devonte Fields.

This defense is no slouch, either, ranking 13th in the nation.

The Clemson offense has been something of a slouch early on, but this unit is  loaded and especially at Wide Receiver.

Mike Williams, Artivus Scott, Ray-Ray McCloud and Deon Cain are the main ones with Hunter

Renfrow injured.  Tight End Jordan Leggett is one of the best in the nation as well.

Running Back Wayne Gallman is a hard running talent and doesn’t get enough credit because of Watson and other Clemson stars. Offensive Tackle Mitch Hyatt and Center Jay Guillermo lead the Offensive Line.

This is not number 1 vs number 2, but it’s really close. The title Game of the Century has been way overused over the years. But, this game is possibly the game of the year, so far. Or, it could be.

The Odds makers have Louisville as a 2 point favorite. I don’t care to predict an outcome for this game just yet, but unless Clemson plays like they did last season they might get blown out. Louisville has already proven that they can score some points against good teams.

Tune in on Saturday for what could be the game of the year.
