Matthew Thomas Florida State Linebacker Finally Stepping Up

Matthew Thomas was a 5 star recruit out of Miami’s Booker T Washington High School in Miami, Florida that picked the Florida State Seminoles over the world in the 2013 class.

He played a little in his true freshman season, but he developed something of a reputation of having a bad attitude. The Florida State Seminoles won the national championship that season with Heisman winner Jameis Winston.

Thomas was suspended for the first 6 games of 2014 when the Seminoles were favored to repeat as national champions. After returning to the team in game 7, Thomas played some and enough to make 26 tackles including a few for loss.

Thomas injured his shoulder and missed all of the 2015 season.

As a person that loves to see people live up to their potential, it was nice to see Matthew Thomas on

the field against Ole Miss on Monday Night.

In spite of Ole Miss jumping out to a 22 point lead, Thomas did his part for the entire game. He played well against the run and against the pass.

Spectacular sophomore Safety Derwin James led the team in tackles with 8 total, and James also contributed a timely Interception.

Following James on the tackle list was junior linebacker and former 5 star recruit from Miami Matthew Thomas. With 7 total tackles including 1 for a 7 yard loss, Thomas opened some eyes against Ole Miss.

Thomas also played well in pass coverage. Playing in different coverages, it’s sometimes hard to tell who was responsible for certain receivers and Ole Miss Quarterback Chad Kelly did complete pass between Thomas and a Defensive Back for a Touchdown.

But, on other passing plays, Thomas stopped his receiver for no gain and for a 7 yard loss.

Thomas came in at 6-3, 215, supposedly, but he is around 227 now and he has maintained that elite speed that made him a top recruit in the 2013 class.
