Best Bowl Game Performances

Nick Chubb – Georgia: Chubb ended an incredible senior season with another outstanding performance in the Belk Bowl. Taking on one of the nation’s great defenses in the Louisville Cardinals, Chubb ran for 266 yards on 33 carries with one going 82 yards. Louisville defensive Backs underestimated Chubb’s speed and could not catch him on the 82 yard run.

Chubb has 1,547 yards on the ground in 2014 with 14 Touchdowns for an amazing freshman season leading the Georgia Bulldogs to a 10-3 record.

Cooper Rush – Central Michigan: Most football fans have not heard of Cooper Rush and 13,000 saw his performance in the Popeyes Bahama Bowl and I was 1 out of 7 that watched it on television. The Central Michigan Chippewas were down 49-14 in the 4th quarter to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Cooper Rush never gave up and almost led his team from behind only to lose 49-48 when his coach elected to go for the 2 point conversion instead of going for the tie and Overtime. Rush threw for an amazing 493 yards and 7 Touchdowns from 28 completions out of 45 passing attempts. Keep Cooper Rush in mind because he is a 6-3, 220 sophomore from Charlotte, Michigan and appears to have a bright future. Rush threw for 3,157 yards in 2014 and 27 Touchdowns. That was after throwing for 2,349 yards and 15 Touchdowns.

Brandon Doughty- Western Kentucky: In the very same game, the opposing Quarterback Brandon Doughty from the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers threw for an almost equally amazing 486 yards and 5 Touchdowns. The 6-3, 210 senior from Davie, Florida had an incredible last season throwing for an eye popping 4,830 yards and 49 Touchdowns.

Titus Davis – Central Michigan: Davis caught 4 out of Cooper Rush’s 7 Touchdowns in the Bahama Bowl and 6 catches for 142 yards for the game. Davis capped off a solid senior season that saw him catch 60 passes for 985 yards and 13 Touchdowns. Titus Davis is a 6-2, 190 senior from Wheaton, Illinois.  Few people outside of the MAC have ever seen Titus Davis play. He’s a good sized Wide Receiver that may get a good look in the NFL.

Corey Davis – Western Michigan: 2nd player in a row from Wheaton, Illinois, but that’s because Titus and Corey Davis are brothers. Against the Air Force Academy in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho on the hideous blue turf, Davis had 8 receptions for 176 yards and 3 Touchdowns. The 6-2, 205 sophomore had 78 catches this season for 1,408 yards and 15 Touchdowns. Western Michigan coach PJ Fleck has coached and played in the NFL and says Corey Davis is as good as anyone in the country. He is one of the hardest working players on the team.

Josh Hicks – Rutgers: The Rutgers Scarlet Knights might have gotten a glimpse of the future in the Quick Lane Bowl when freshman Running Back Josh Hicks ran for 202 yards on 19 carries against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Josh Hicks is a freshman Running Back out of Palmetto, Florida. He ran for only 440 yards during the season, but he saved the best for last.

Hicks ran for 114 yards against Indiana and 69 yards against Maryland. North Carolina did not have the best of defenses this year, but Hicks looked like the 5-10, 205 Running Back of the future.

Adoree Jackson – USC: Jackson is one of the top two way players to come along in some time and he had a whale of a freshman season and ended spectacularly in the Holiday Bowl against Nebraska.

The Huskers kicked a Field Goal in the first quarter and kicked off only to have Adoree Jackson return it 98 yards for a Touchdown. In the 3rd quarter, Adoree Jackson had a 71 yard Touchdown reception from Cody Kessler. On defense, Jackson had 7 tackles.

Jackson finished with only 10 catches on the season, but he also had 49 total tackles on defense.

Jamison Crowder – Duke: Arizona State was about to pull away from Duke in the Sun Bowl before Duke scored and then forced ASU to punt and Crowder took it the distance for a 68 yard Touchdown. Crowder has been doing that for Duke for several years, keeping them in ball games and even winning games for them. Crowder had 7 receptions for 102 yards. He threw one pass which he completed for a 12 yard gain and he ran once for another 3 yards.

Crowder has been a star for Duke for the last 3 seasons and he will be missed.

Leonard Fournette -LSU: Super freshman Leonard Fournette had a great bowl game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish even if the Tigers did not win the game. Fournette ran 11 times for 143 yards and 2 Touchdowns. In case you were curious, that is 13.0 yards per carry.

Then, Fournette had a 100 yard Kickoff return. The 6-1, 230 true freshman from New Orleans had 187 carries on the season which was good for 1,034 yards and 10 Touchdowns. The Fighting Irish defeated the LSU Tigers 31-28 in the Music City Bowl, but it was no fault of Fournette.

Thomas Sperbeck – Boise State: The Boise State Broncos were fortunate to outlast the Arizona Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl and they were also fortunate to have Thomas Sperbeck at Wide Receiver. Sperbeck had 12 catches on the night good for 199 yards and kept coming up big for the Broncos on play after play. He’s not a big guy at 6-0, 175 which made his performance even more impressive. Sperbeck had 51 receptions on the year for 877 yards and 3 Touchdowns.

Dak Prescott – Mississippi State: The Bulldogs got whipped by Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl, but Prescott had a big, big game throwing for 453 yards on 33 completions out of 51 attempts. The most that Prescott had thrown for all season was 331 yards against Arkansas, but the Mississippi

State Bulldogs were playing from behind all night long. Georgia Tech wound up winning by 49-34 but Prescott and teammates kept fighting back. Prescott wound up with 3,449 passing yards this season with 27 Touchdowns.

Synjyn Days – Georgia Tech: Once the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets get that Fullback going up the middle, it’s nearly impossible to shut that offense down. Days ran for 171 yards at 8.1 yards per carry and 3 Touchdowns. Days split time at Fullback with Zach Laskey and he had 63 yards rushing in this game as well as the Yellow Jackets pounded the Mississippi State Bulldogs 49-34. The 6-2, 230 senior from Marrieta, Georgia finished 2014 with 924 yards and 9 Touchdowns.

Quarterback Justin Thomas and Fullbacks Synjyn Days and Zach Laskey are the main offensive weapons for the Yellow Jackets and led them to a superb 11-3 finish to the 2014 season.

Melvin Gordon – Wisconsin: Gordon, of the Big 10, had to listen to a lot of smack talk by the Auburn Tigers saying that Gordon hadn’t done anything against real competition and then Gordon promptly went out and crushed the Auburn Tiger defense for 251 yards rushing on 34 carries. Gordon scored 3 Touchdowns on the ground and improved his rushing totals for 2014 to 2,587 yards and 29 Touchdowns. He had 251 yards against Auburn and 140 yards rushing against LSU, so nobody can say he didn’t play anybody.

Amazing thing about Gordon is that the Badgers have very little threat in the passing game and it’s all on the running game for Wisconsin success on the football field.

Gordon’s back up, Cory Clement also had 105 yards rushing so a lot of credit must go to the Wisconsin Badger Offensive Line.

Ezekiel Elliott – Ohio State: The Ohio State Buckeyes had no chance against top ranked Alabama, or so they told us. Ezekiel Elliott and his teammates refused to listen to the talking heads in the media and went out and whipped the Alabama Crimson Tide. Elliott had 230 yards rushing on 20 carries for a very impressive 11.5 yards per carry including an 85 yard Touchdown run in which he pulled away from the very fast Crimson Tide defense.

Elliott is not a small back coming in at 6-0, 225 and he can run, obviously. He improved his total yards for this season to 1,632 yards with one game still remaining.

Vonn Bell, Tyvis Powell, Steve Miller – Ohio State: The Buckeye defense just had to have some mention for their performance against the Crimson Tide. Vonn Bell had an interception, plus 8 individual tackles. Tyvis Powell had an interception also and contributed 3 total tackles.

Steve Miller had an Interception in which he returned 41 yards for a Touchdown.

The entire Buckeye defense played their hearts out against Alabama and earned a spot in the National Championship game.

Bryce Petty- Baylor: Baylor lost 42-41 to the Michigan State Spartans, but Petty had a huge game before going down. The Spartan defense was incredible in 2013 and slightly less so in 2014, but Petty shredded it for 550 yards passing on a 36 completions out of 51 passing attempts. Petty had 3 Touchdowns through the air and he ran for another.

KD Cannon – Baylor: True freshman Cannon caught 8 passes for 197 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Cannon had a really nice freshman season with 58 receptions for just over 1,000 yards. Cannon is not a big guy at 6-0, 170 but he has some serious speed and kept sneaking by the talented Spartan secondary.
