Jim Harbaugh to Michigan

Jim Harbaugh can’t get to Michigan soon enough. He is a Michigan man, went to high school in Ann Arbor and played Quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines. Once through at Michigan, Harbaugh played Quarterback in the NFL for 14 seasons before retiring and becoming a football coach.

Harbaugh got his head coaching start at the University of San Diego. That’s not San Diego State, but the University of San Diego. His teams went 7-4, 11-1, and then 11-1 before he left for Stanford.

Stanford was pretty bad when he came and there was talk they were going to drop football or drop to a lower level.

Harbaugh got that mess straightened up pretty quickly. His first season they went 4-8. Then, they improved slightly to 5-7 and then it was 8-5. The following season the Stanford Cardinal went 12-1 and went to a BCS Bowl.

Harbaugh left for the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers where he was an instant success. His first season in the league, the 49ers went 13-3. They followed that up with an 11-4-1 season and then a 12-4. This past season, the 49ers went 8-8 and Harbaugh was pretty much out.

The Big 10 needs Jim Harbaugh. Michigan needs Jim Harbaugh, and some people might even say so does Ohio State.

This will put the Big 10 back on the college football map.

Recruits are already noticing in spite of the fact that it’s really late in the recruiting season. High school football players are going to want to play for a coach that has played and coached in the NFL and knows what it takes to make it to that level.

Michigan only has 6 commitments which is far short of the national average and rival Ohio State and Urban Meyer with 24 commitments including 3 5 star guys. Ohio State is leaving the rest of their league in the dust with recruiting this season.

Michigan had some other commits earlier until it was clear that they were not going to be any good under former coach Brady Hoke. They lost quite a few commitments including one of the nation’s top Tight Ends in Chris Clark from Avon, Connecticut. Clark decided to look around at some other programs, but might swing back to Michigan now that Harbaugh is on board.

Another recruit that they lost was top Inside Linebacker out of Indianapolis, Darrin Kirkland. Kirkland committed to Michigan and then opened his recruitment back up and is now committed to Tennessee and I don’t think he switches back.

But, even if they have lost him, recruits have opened their eyes and are looking at Michigan. The Wolverines need a Quarterback like so many other teams. They do have a commitment from Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice High School 4 star Quarterback Alex Malzone.

Junior Shane Morris from Hazel Park, Michigan is supposed to be the starter next season, but he hasn’t shown that much so far in limited playing time. What high school Quarterback wouldn’t want to play for former Michigan and NFL Quarterback Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

The time is right for Harbaugh. Michigan has been down long enough.

Michigan State has taken over control of the state of Michigan. But, Michigan State just lost brilliant Defensive Coordinator Pat Narduzzi when he took the Pittsburgh job. So, possibly the door is open with Harbaugh to take back control.

Since Lloyd Carr left in 2007, the Michigan Wolverines have struggled to maintain a winning record with Rich Rodriguez and then Brady Hoke. Hoke did have a strong season in 2011, but it’s been downhill since that point.

During Jim Harbaugh’s last 2 seasons playing Quarterback for the Wolverines went 10-1-1 and 11-2. Those are the types of seasons that are expected at Michigan.

Michigan is the college football program that has won more games than anyone else in history. 12-0, 11-1, and 10-2 are the types of seasons that a Michigan Man would expect.

Jim Harbaugh is a Michigan Man and he is home.
